I've been thinking about setting up a ghost ring sight for my Ruger SRH 454. Any one running these, think they would work well for a hand cannon?

They are great, but you need a F/O front sight to really enjoy the view. Marbles makes them for the SRH.

Where did you get the ghost ring sight? I like the look of it. I found one at warren custom outdoors. Is there another source?

I have had the peep sight from Warren Outdoors on my Blackhawk for about a month now. I like it a lot. I plan on taking it hog hunting in March.

mine is a one ragged hole but my understanding is due to health problems that is on again off again

My ghost sight is installed and ready for sighting in tomorrow. It looks great on gun and it looks like it will work like promised. I was pointing the gun around the yard and it centers the front sight like advertised.

Well I tried my ghost sight this weekend. It was great. It was easy to sight in and was quick to get on target. It comes with two apertures. I used the larger one since I carry my ruger when hunting heavy cover.

I also found the larger one to be easier to get on target. The smaller one has a bit too much metal around it for my liking. Glad they work as well for you as they do for me.

I have them also and like them a lot. You can drill the hole a little larger on the smaller one if needed.

Well I got the rings, and got them installed. At first I did not like them because I could not get them sited in very well it seamed that all my elevation adjustments did not take. Once I replaced the pin that had sheared off everything worked perfectly, I like them. Now I'm on the hunt for a F/O front sight.

Brownells carries the Marbles front sights.

Don't want to sound like a pain, but learned a long time ago not to use abbreviations unless I spelled it out first. Then I could use the abrvs. from there on. what the heck is an F/O front sight???

I found the ghost sight and marble front sight worked great inside of 30 yards. Any advice on utilizing this sight out to 50 yards. I was all over the target. The front sight covers the target and when I tried to put target (pie plate) on top of front sight like normal the top of the ghost ring is in the way. I am thinking of switching back to factory sights.

I disect a target with the fiber optic front when using the ghost ring. The 6:00 hold doesn't work well with this system. For shooting groups I center the front inside the rear and center that on the target spot. For the target I like something round that is slightly larger than the FO front covers at that distance, which gives a halo effect around the front sight when it is centered. When shooting game I just put the front on the spot I want to hit and let 'er fly. It isn't really a precision sighting system but you can shoot fairly tight groups this way.

I know this is an old post, but I have a peep on my SRH and the factory front sight. I mounted an UltraDot on the pistol before I sighted in the peep (aperature), and now want to go back to the peep.

I looked at Brownells and found the front sight, but don't know what height to buy. Should I get the .332 or .390?

What is the gun chambered in, and what is the barrel length? I would go with the taller one as it seems you can never have too much front sight, and the sweet spot of my ORH peep was a little taller than the factory rear sight.

Super Redhawk 44, 7.5". Shooting 24gr H110 under a 240gr. XTP as my favorite load for everything.

The book says a .332", but that is when using a factory notched rear. I would go with the taller one as the rear sight has plenty of upward adjustment and the center of my ORH are a little higher than the top of a factory notch.

Yeah, go for the higher sight. I did find a Fiber Optic(FO) sight but its so low that I did not have enough adjustment in the rear Ghost Ring to make it work right. Switched back to the factory front blade and its working now.

I just put the .390 from Marbles/Brownell's on this morning. Unfortunately, it's raining too hard to go out and shoot right now, and my wife gets upset when I fire from within the (attached) garage with the 44. I think she's being unreasonable, but oh well.

The green Marbles FS is incredible with the rear peep. I may not go back to the Ultra Dot now! I was having trouble keeping both eyes open with the Ultra Dot - not so with the peep and front sight combo.

How much of the target does the front sight obscure at 50 yds or so?

It definitely obscures a little of the target. The dot is normal size, but I'm thinking it best to hold with a sight picture of the dot covering the area you want to hit for hunting. Personally, I won't take much more than a 50yd shot while hunting with it anyway - not that you couldn't, but probably need to switch to the 6 o'clock hold. I'm hunting hogs and deer, and rarely do I need to shoot over 50 yards, most within 25. I won't use the "pumpkin on a post" hold for this set up when hunting.

I have not yet tried it out on a standard paper target, but I am picking off 12ga shotgun hulls at between 40-50 yards.... I will try it out on paper targets sometime this weekend with the standard 6 o'clock hold to see how it does.

Ok, so the marbles sight worked fine - BUT...

After a few times in and out of a Galco Dual Action Outdoorsman holster, the rear piece that retains the light "pipe" came off. Now it's unusable. The rear light pipe "retainer" is very thin even though the front retainer seems to be a bit better.

Back to the search for a good front sight (and I REALLY liked the green dot!)

Epoxy?

If you aren't going to be changing out the light pipe, make it permanent. Would be worth a try. I am surprised that your holster could wear it out so quickly.

I put some epoxy on last night, and it seems to be holding well.

The holster didn't really wear it out, it just has (had) a very thin piece of square sheet metal with a hole for the pipe holding the rear part of the light pipe in place. The front of the sight had a more solid, bigger piece to hold it in and I wish they would have used that on the back as well. That thin piece drug along the top of the holster sight channel and bent while carefully holstering and unholstering a couple of times and the bending broke the piece off. This holster has a very pronounced sight channel, but not enough for the taller sight. I will not replace it with a Marbles, even though I REALLY liked the sight picture.

Ultimately, the higher sight is too high for the sight channel in the holster. I'm going to try a more "robust" front sight in the future to see if it works. For now, the epoxy should work, but the taller sight does definitely drag on the holster. The original ramp sight does not cause any problems, and barely contacts the holster.
