Im looking at putting a red dot scope on a 44 mag contender. I have never used one, but this is a new project of mine so Im going to give it a try. I dont plan on shooting past 50 yds with this scope/gun combo. Any recommendations on a good, quality red dot???

UltraDot

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I've used a Millet Redot on a SRH .454 with great success.

I've been very pleased with the Ultra Dot on a Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter .44 Mag. Quality optics and great for revolvers.

Not the same style red dot, but I really enjoy my Burris fast fire III

I've used a few different ones but if I get another it will be an Ultra Dot. I have a millet on my 454 right now and it's ok but it's hard to see through in low light. I have a Bushnell on my 500 and it works well, it's also ridden a 500 S&W and 45-70 BFR. For a 90.00 piece you can't ask much more than handling those brutes. It would handle a 44 easily but I still think for the extra 40 or 50 bucks I'll go with the Ultradot.

This was my one experience with a Millet, the glass was tinted and you couldn't see squat in low light. It went down the road quickly.

Thanks guys. Im leaning more toward the ultradot. I got a bushnell for my MKIII and immediately sent it back. Not only was it blurry but it wouldnt adjust between the different reticles.

The bushnells are inexpensive and the Ultradot is a much better sight. My experience with the Bushnells has been fine out of the box. I've only had one failure and that was just after I moved it to my Linebaugh a year or so ago. The sight was already about 10yrs old and had lived on boomers all of that time so I wasn't too upset when it broke. I sent it in and got a new one back within a couple weeks. It's been on the 500 since and has been fine.
