I am interested in feedback regarding mounting the VX-3 on my 460. Anyone have experience with using 3 rings instead of just 2 to mount? If so do see see it help reduce movement?

I use 4 rings on mine! I use a Leupold also, and have had no trouble with movement at all. I am using near full house loads out of mine, and have been very pleased with the scope setup. Zero it and forget it!

Ferggie,

I went with 3 Warne Maxima rings on my PC Hunter in 460 - I had originally used 2 Leupold QD mounts...which didn't hold. Scope slid - opted for 3 instead of trying labels or rosin.

Holds fine now

Long story short…

Two rings will hold it. Even if you have to put labels in the rings. (I only had two rings on my 375 H&H AI barrel)

The more rings you put on the scope the less the scope will flex. The less the scope flexes the higher your scopes structural integrity is.

I have four rings on my larger rounds. I don’t “need” them, but they are there. Call it added insurance. I look at it as an investment in my scopes life.

MHO, buy steel base and rings and put more than two...

I like the Warne bases!!! I use them on my large calibers with 4 Burris rings.

Top: 375 JDJ. Bottom: 460 S&W.

I had the same set up with the Warne base and VXIII, I went with three rings, as I remember spacing wouldn't allow for the fourth ring to be used.

I have 2 Warne Maxima Rings on my PC 460, and my Encore 460, and have had no trouble at all.
