I am fairly new to this site. I have only made a few posts (because I'm relatively new to handgun hunting)but have spent a lot of hours reading posts from y'all.

I just finished my morning ritual of reading the various firearms blogs and forums that I normally read. They are typically full of - my .45 is better than your 9mm, a .380 can never be used for self defense, my AK is better than your AR, what new high-tech gadget is best to mount on your firearm, it takes at least a 500 S&W to stop a wild hog, etc,. etc.,

Then I go back to this site. Of the few questions I've asked, I received an honest and real life experience reply. Not opinionated, and no one trying to push their "favorite" caliber, gun, etc. on me. Just factual, friendly advice.

I tend to wonder if that's not the entire essence of handgun hunting. Just good, responsible folks - willing to pass on useful information.

I'm 43 and still a kid. I have been shooting all of my life and my experience ranges from LE to high-power matches to hunting to coaching youth shooting sports (my personal favorite!). I'm starting to learn (at 43) that getting back to the "basics" is the most important thing we can do - and that applies to many of life's activities - not just hunting and shooting.

So, I guess I'm simplifying my life. I absolutely love shooting my out-dated, non-tacticool SRH. I love reloading for the .44 Mag. I guess the simplicity just recently hit me. I might even go drag out the cap and ball revolvers today - with my son and daughter, of course!!

Thanks.

Nice observation. I like it.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Thats why this is the best site on the net for this. You can darn near be banned from some others for even slightly disagreeing with the moderators opinions. Gary runs a heck of a good site here. I 2nd your thanks!

I couldn't agree more. I haven't been here long either, but it was very welcoming here and most informational and sharing. Great bunch to have around.

I have noticed the same thing. I know I have not been a member for very long but I have noticed that everyone on lhere do have there favorites like anyone would. It is refreshing to see people say to "to each his own." The best part is that the majority of the the answeres to questions that have been asked on here have factual information to go with them. They an not just one persons opinion or feeling at the time. I have read many different forums dealing with many different subject area and have seen that some people really think their opinion is the the bible. I hate to bust their bubble but ones opinion about a topic is always right, just the way the real world is. I like that people on here encourage you to find what works bet for you but they haelp by letting you know what works best for them, which gives you a good starting point. This is an AWESOME site and I believe I am a member for life.

I started handgun hunting in 2009. Did all my research on this sight. Well, at least started all of my research here. The guys that are on here now, are the guys that were here when I started. They really do care about expanding the sport, as I now do to.

You will run in to some things that will ruffle your feathers now and then, but look at it this way: We are family on this forum. We all share a lot of the same goals. When ya have this many people in your family, there is bound to be tension now and then. But we deal with it, and we go on. We share stories, and we even share personal family losses that occur outside the hunting world. It really is family.

This is THEE ONLY FORUM I belong to on the net. And I would trust these guys with my life if I had to. Well, except for jamesfromjersey-- he would most likely shoot ya and say he was sighting in for hogs!! :-)

Oh, and don't tick off President Wapitirod. He has one finger hovering 1/16 of an inch over the big red button already, and we are just one nervous twitch away from an explosion that makes the 50 Alaskan look like a snap cap!! HAHAHA!!!!

I agree with the new guys... THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!!!!!

I totally disagree. This site needs a warning label. I was happy and content with my little contender and few barrels. Now I am making multiple trips to local gun shop a week and have more barrels than my wife knows about. I am not happy unless I see big holes in the target and rattling the tin roof over the range when I pull the trigger. I am addicted to the smell of burnt H110, H4895, and IMR 3031. Well gotta go to local shop for some more powder and bullets. LOL!! Welcome to the addiction. You been warned.

Yeah, like deerdad said, its an addiction. And people will try to help make it as painless as possible, and will tell you that it is cheaper to reload your own bullets.

They are lying through their teeth cause all you are going to do is shoot up the savings!!! HAHA!!!!

Wait a minute, I thought you already wear seal skin James. Don't you live in the North Pole? Oh ya it's just jersey never mind. Lol. Yep I have been a handgun hunter for 32 years and when I came to this site a few years ago, I learned a lot I didn't know even with that many years experience. We sometimes may have our disagreements regarding a certain bullet or caliber, but even then people are still pretty much open minded and respectful of others.

You guys aint right. Do you like to cook or just stir the pot occasionaly?
Geoexchange: You will get good answers here and most will be from real world experences. The depth of knowlege here is vast AND varied and free for the asking. We don't always agree but that is as it should be. We have different experences and sometimes different results from the same tests. We all preceive recoil differently and like different grips, guns and bullets. We can only make suggestions, not tell you what will work best for you,but the suggestions will be based on experience and what we know worked for us. I'm not a revolver fan or a contender fan or a bolt gun or auto pistol fan. I am a handgun fan and use and love them all.Which is my favorite and which is the best? The one I have in my hand at the time . Keep on plugging away with that .44,it will serve you well!!!!!!!!!!!!

I checked out their Facebook site. Pretty interesting. It seems they also do some deer hunting at their farm. I wonder how successful hunters are?
