I just read on the Speer website that Alliant states that Blue Dot is not to be used on 125 grainers and not on any loads for the 41 mag. In the 80- 90-2000's, Blue Dot with 13.5 grains pushing the 125 grainer was the perfect load. Does anyone know what happened here? I shot hundreds of those loads for years. In fact, I have some now in 125 gr. Sierra.

Yes I still use it in 45/70. I also still use it for 125 gr 357, as well as 41 mag 401 mag applications. Blue dot is a very good heavy field powder as well as being good for magnum handgun loads in addition to heavy auto pistol loads. What bluedot doesn't work well with is pushing the ragged edge of the pressure curve. When working into the upper pressure limits blue dot can start snowballing the pressure real quick. Longshot makes for a perfectly acceptable substitute to blue dot for the higher pressure applications as it will not make such a severe pressure jump when approaching max loads. Power Pistol is also a good alternative with very similar results to longshot performance wise.

Alliant says do not use Blue Dot and a 125 gr. bullet.
