I was just on Midways site and was going to order some 400gr 475 XTP's and it says they have been discontinued by the manufacturer. I guess that leaves those of us that like jacketed with the Deep Curl and Hawk Custom. I don't remember if Swift is or is going to make a 475 cal or not.

As single action handgun hunters things have been strange for a while. Belt Mtn is going through something weird as one of the guys on here was told the owner had to get another job, Midway has discontinued their products but not sure about Brownells. Weigand has quit making the single action replacement sights. Lyman quit making their version of the Bowen sight which was a third of the cost. You can't get the Bisley conversion kits anymore and I've actually been told Ruger is no longer selling the grip frames, I haven't confirmed that but this is what Midway told me. The aftermarket grip frames which were available in several styles are gone. Some of the aftermarket cylinders and parts are gone and even the Ruger factory parts can be a pain sometimes with the vendors being backordered on alot of parts. I get some of my specialty parts including my cylinders and .257 base pins from Bowen and they have been out of stock on everything and their machine shop is months behind. This started well before the gun control crap came up so I don't know what is going on. The only thing I can figure is that with a new generation of shooters being more enticed by auto's and not interested in old six shooters we are looking at a decline in single action sales and therefore a need for parts. I'm not involved but it even seems like cowboy action shooting has started tapering off.

it sucks rod, but i've watched the cycle in firearms ebb and flow for years and now it's all in these "black" guns. i now officially hate everything AR, despite having several, for the inevitable civil war with the govt that'll come at some point but for what i enjoy and like to shoot i can't find. hell, i wanted to support ruger coming out with the 480 again, can't find em, can't find an alaskan 454, and when i talked to ruger at sci they said they sell everyone they make and quickly but the hot item is the AR's and the lil plastic lcp's and whatnot. i agree, completely pisses me off when i can't find what i want. now if the 400 gr xtp is gone then we've hit a new low!

It's gone, alright. My favorite .475 bullet, too. &^%$&*#

Luckily, I have more single actions than I can ever shoot to pieces in my remaining life, but still ....

It all starts with Zombie, Home Defence, Personal Pertection magazines being stuffed on every magazine shelf in the country. You can't find hardly any articles on revolver's, let alone a Big Bore revolver.
The media is just giving the new gun owner's what they are looking for.

You know it takes alot to pull the hammer back before you shoot, not to mention the fact that if your a poor shot you may need alot more then 6:)

Lots of casting and custom molds.

I ordered a couple of boxes of 270gr. .429 Gold Dots ( Deep Curls ) from Midway back in november. I was told that they were on back-order. In january I received an E-Mail from them telling me that they wouldn't ship until mid june. I cancelled the order, because I found a Mom & Dad Gun Shop not far from me that had three boxes of them on the shelf. I bought all three at 12.99 a box of fifty. It seems like everything has gone crazy out there. RLB might be correct, start casting.

I purchased 4 molds from Lee, all I need is some time to put them to work.

I bet ya my next pay check it has something to do with how many 223 bullets you can make out of one 400 grain bullet...

I was pretty much thinking the same thing. What are they gonna make, 475 or 9mm/223. The majority is buying those caliber's, so the manufactor cuts the fat. Unfortunately we are the fat this time..

What exactly are they going to load in 475 Linebaugh then? Sounds like nothing.

they are going to have to drop their factory linebaugh ammo. I'm guessing that's why I found it on clearance not long ago when I posted it on here.

Midway still has the 400gr XTP 480R ammo in stock if anyone is interested.

So how well do the 325gr bullets work in the 475 linebaugh loadings? I know how they perform in the 480.

I run them to about 1550 or so but never used them other than for paper. The 400's seem to be more accurate but there are also the Speers and Hawks.

Is the Speer pretty accurate? I have used them a bunch in my 44 mag with decent results.

I haven't worked with them much but I've heard good things about the Deep Curl. The older gold dots weren't as tough, the only problem I had was in my particular guns I had to download from the XTP. It seemed like the copper was softer but they would build pressure faster.

I haven't had very good luck with the 325gr. xtp as far as accuracy go's, probably need to play with it a little more. The 400gr Speer GD and Hornady xtp both shoot very good out of my 475 Lin. I know Gary has had good luck with the 325 Speer in his 475 Lin.
