I know this has been brought up before but! I loaded some .480 last night and what a pain! The rims on the Hornady brass are thick and thin with some fitting the shell holder and most not. I have Lee dies and a #5 shell holder,is there another that fits better?Had to thin down over half the rims before they would fit.Drill press and a small file with a safe side ground on it and a hour or so of work later[time flies when you are having fun] done! My drill press has a troll living under it that eats dropped brass, as one hit the floor not to be seen again.Guess its time to clean out his corner!!!!355 grn. wfngc cci lp and 26,
26.5,and 27 grn H110 and a heavy crimp. Now to see what it likes.
Won't take near as long to unload as load!!!!!!!!!

I use Hornady dies & shellholder with Starline brass and never had any problems. I know brass is the stuff of legends nowdays, but you might want to backorder some from Starline, I believe they are going to do a run in late April.

I have an RCBS shellholder and have never had an issue with either Hornady or Starline brass.

Given my druthers, I would own nothing but Starline brass in every caliber I shoot. It has been for me the most consistent and durable of any manufacturer I own.

I have lee dies and shell holders for my 480. I haven't run into that problem. My brass is half Hornady and half starline.

Thanks for the info. Shot my reloads today from the less than ideal position for me, prone off sandbags. With my neck it is a painful position. The 26 and 26.5 gr load shot well at 2 inches at 50 yds. with 4 going into one ragged hole. By the time I got to the 27 gr. load the factory grips were working on my thumb bad,[they peeled a dime sized piece of skin up on the inside]and they gotta go!!!I have a set of Hogue Tamers on order.I will have to try the loads some more when the tamers get here, and the thumb heals. The 27 gr loads were sticky to extract.

I use Lee dies and Speer brass. Out of 100, I've got about 6-8 cases w/ rims that won't fit the shell holder. I called Lee and they said to send in the holder along with a case that won't fit and they'll make it right. I've not sent mine in yet but plan to.

The Hogue tamers help. It also helps to just lower your grip just a tad or wear shooting gloves of some sort. You didn't say, but I assume you are talking about the SRH.

I use Hornady brass for the 480R cause I have so much of it... like 1200 pieces.

If I did not I would get starline.

I have Ruger Dies, RCBS shell holder and Horn brass... never had any problem... never

I was using the factory grip on the Super Redhawk. The ridge at the back of the cutout for access to the cylinder did the damage to my thumb.I don't know if it raised a blood blister then popped it or just tore the skin.I had on a glove ,but did have my left thumb curled over the right putting extra pressure on it.The loads were 26 ,26.5 and 27 gr H110 and a 355 gr bullet Sixteen rounds did the damage. The Hogue tamers should be here any day!
