My Ruger 10" SBB has a removable front sight that has a super sharp point on it. It ripped my nylon holster and has hung up twice while drawing. I am tempted to file and reblue to defang this. My question is: do designers give any thought to this stuff when they invent it? I have turned in suggestions to numerous companies for product improvement and all they say is thanks and no change. I think great companies need to listen to the users. Comments??

That Ruger sight is cut that way for a reason. It was designed for silhouette shooting and gave a clear crisp sight picture.I don't think it was ever designed for much holster wear. As you have found out it is hard on holsters especially nylon. Try a ramp style front sight for ease of use in holsters. The designers did listen at the time and that was the results. The sight worked very well for its intended purpose even with the heat waves off the barrel from extended strings of fire. Handgun hunting then wasn't as big as it is now and the 10 inch barrel guns were mostly used for target/silhouette .The sight still works well its just not holster friendly. J M H O

My personal opinion is that there are many things about Ruger revolvers that are "too sharp". They need to take just a little more time during to manufacturing process to defang some of the sharp edges.

I'd do like Junebug suggested and switch sights but as far as Ruger and sharp edges it's like the rest of the quality or lack of in some cases with Ruger. If they took the time to machine frames better or tighten up actions the cost would skyrocket.

I decided that the sight picture would not change and I can live with the glare. I will needle file the point off.

That was and is a very good front sight but it will be a lot more holster friendly with some file work thats for sure. While you are at it you may as well knock the sharp corners off the rear sight too,add a little touch up blue and its a finished job!

Good for you as it is not a big deal. All of my guns receive some TLC over and above the normal "cleaning." Even my shotguns.

You could probably have a holster made to accommodate that sight. Some holster manufacturers will set a guide system into holster to keep sight from tearing into it. Leather is the way to go, nylon is for panty hose
