Got a 30 Herrett Contender with 14" bbl. Seems way muzzle heavy. Any opinions on optimum barrel length for this cartridge, and optimum scope?

I shoot a 22LR contender with my elbow on my hip. 4x burris seems right power, but has too long eye relief. Again please, scope suggestions for this gun also.

Other guidance appreciated.

Thanks. Tom.

welcome, please excuse the lack of manners, most of the folks around here are preoccupied with the preponderance of foolish new gun laws. Where are you located? my most useful off hand position ismy supporting hand around my shooting hand and my supporting arm across my chest, with my elbow pulled into my more than ample belly.

I'm in Houston.

I kinda lean back a little with my arm pulled in to my side and support my shooting hand with my off hand. It puts the Burris scope several inches too close, though it works fine with a BSA 2x on my air pistol. And I don't want to use a rifle scope on the Herrett and get an eyeful of scope trying the Taco hold. I'll figure it out.

Was wondering about realistic scope power for handguns. 4x seems almost too much, but less limits accuracy. Still new at this.

The 30 Herrett 10" I shot was VERY loud so I got the 14". I guess I'll have to settle for more weight hoping less noise.

Thanks.

The Herrett"s were designed to be shot out of 10" barrels.

They are all loud.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Load the Herrett with 130 -140's with 4227, they will bark but not too bad. I always believed that any pistol over 10 needs to be a rifle. I have logged thousanfs of 30's through a ten and have never been let down. Leopold mounts and 2x are great on the tender. 4x is good too, although i can find thing really fast in the 2x.

I had a .30 Herrett modified to a 12 inch barrel, and liked it a lot. With some powders you can get a bit more performance out of a 12" vs. a 10. I like the Leupold scopes; I have used and own the 2X, 4X, and 2.5 X 8 variables.

BTW: WELCOME rdlange, welcome to the site!

RL-7 and 130gr Hornady SP. I run this from a 10" barrel with great accuracy and excellent terminal performance. It's also topped with a 4X Tasco....has treated me well for years.
