Just got a contender in 6/TCU and have started loading 70gr Ballistic tips; what type of varmint is out and about and legal to shoot in northern Oregon this time of the year?

I'm not from Oregon...but do you have any rockchucks (Marmots)?? We have groundhogs in the east...which are the equivalent to the rockchucks...they make great targets for the 6T/CU!

Where in OR are you from. I'll be using my 6TCU on antelope and groundhogs in WY this fall. I use it in Pistol Sil now (1/2 scale). I use the 70 Gr. Nosler BT. I've taken 4-5 Antelope with that bullet in my 6mm BR. NO problem.

Right now there are sage rats and rock chucks out, not to mention lot, and lots of Coyotes.

I'm in Canby, just about twenty miles south of Portland. I also spend alot of time in Forest Grove, at the foot of the coast range and I'll be up scouting clear cuts to plan for elk season this year anyway so I'm looking to blast some varmints while I'm at it.

I'm over here in Bend and if you get to this side of the mountain there are rockchucks but the best hunting is on private ranches, when I lived outside of medford we used to raise cane with the digger squirrels during the day and call and spotlight coyotes at night. If you have some extra money to spend check out clover creek ranch in ashwood (east of madras) they have Aoudad, corsican sheep, painted desert sheep, hawaiian black sheep, mouflon, oregon dahl, 4 horned rams, merrino, catalina, ibex, angora, russian boar, feral hogs, bison, aisian water buffalo, watusi, yak, and fallow deer. there phone # is 541-489-3344, if you give them a call they can send you a brochure with prices.

I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

Hey there wapitirod. I'm in Bend too. I've been the pres and vice pres of Central Oregon Shooting Sports Association. Are you a member? I've been wanting to take my daughter to the clover ranch. Have you been there and whats it like. I've never hunted on a preserve. Call me (541) 318-8862.

Another resident of the Central Oregon area,,,as Rod said there are lots of opportunities on private ranches over here. Sometimes just asking will do,sometimes a little bribe will help.
I live in Prineville and getting over to COSSA although better is still a drive when you count each way divided by the cost of gas eaten by my gas hog. Went over a few times last year to shoot steel with my pistols. Then lost my shooting partner to divvy the cost with and well as act as spotter . I intend to try the high power rifle and CAS disciplines this year though.

Hey 45nut, I used to live in Prineville right up by the Prineville Reservoir. Are the speed goats still hanging around the town of Post..? We'll have to hook up sometime soon and shoot some yotes and stuff.
