Have any of you guys shooting the 460 Rowland come up with loads using HS6? I've used it in everything from the 45 Auto to the 475 Linebaugh but I can't find any info. I've been playing with Longshot but I'm finding it's very tempermental and I'm showing pressure signs with everything except starting loads and some mid loads. I found a starting load of 13.0gr with a 200gr XTP but I'm flattening primers. I showed the same load data (13.0-13.5) for my 185gr FMJFP and they did the same thing until I dropped back to 13.0. I'm going to chrono it to see what kind of velocities I'm getting, if I'm getting top end speed with light loads then great but otherwise I might as well put it back to a 45. The gun is a new R1 and it's also leaving a burr on the primer even when I don't have pressure signs. I'm thinking that is from the firing pin hole and it's catching when it ejects. I'm going to lightly chamfer the edges and polish it to see if that gets fixed but it has been aggravating since I've started with it. I got some WW230gr HP's from Doc with a Glock and at just below max load it was puncturing primers so now I have it a mid range load and it seems to be ok.

Been away for while. Not sure if you are still fighting this. The primer cratering has been a fight with me as well. As near as I can tell and have sorted out, it is a lot to do with the pressure and the larger 45 firing pin. My first Rowland was on a Springfield gun with the 9MM size firing pin, and I never saw a crater, even at above top end. The 45 Super guys have long known the 9mm firing pin helps.

What I have done is just ignore it, as long as my velocities are good. The Rowland and 45 Supers, imho require a chrony at the top end. The line between bulged brass and a full on blow-out is just too darn fine.

Have not played with HS6 in my Rowlands or Supers, but a good second choice is Power Pistol. I have not seen Longshot to be tempermental in my use, but I have seen the top end loads from published sources go from 230's at 1350 fps down to 230's at 1250. I believe the Wislon ammo is so downloaded. Once you get above the 1250 mark, a lot will depend upon how you have your gun set up.

Thanks Craig, I got hold of some AA7 from a buddy and I seem to be on to something. I need to take it out with another chrony as I was getting some serious readings, with 15gr I was showing 1650 and with 17gr I was showing 1850 so I'm not sure how accurate those readings are. We were having some issues but I also shot a load out of my 24" Marlin 1895, the same load with a 430gr Trueshot in my 20" barrel gave me the advertised 2100+ fps and this chrony showed the longer barrel at 2400+ which would be about right. The biggest thing bugging me now is the gun leaves a little burr on the primer but I think your right about the firing pin size and then I still thing if I polish and lightly chamfer the firing pin hole it may fix that part.

1650-1850 out of the Rowland? Wow! Let us know if you confirm those numbers...that's screaming.

I haven't had any issues with longshot. My velocities are good as well. I built my Rowland out of a Glock though. Blue Dot is giving me great velocities and accuracy with no signs of pressure. Power pistol is also working great. I have some HS6 and and I haven't tried it yet. I hope to get back on project Rowland very soon though.

I don't know what Johny is loading in that factory stuff but it will belch a 230gr out at 1460fps from my Glock. reflex264

Your not gonna safely get 230's much beyond 1350 fps in the 1911 safely. Maybe on the first load with new brass, but your weak spot is the unsupported part of the brass in your chamber. Those velocity numbers with a 200 (?) are way wrong. If the chrony is correct, you are hanging out with the angels ;^)

That's what I kind of figured the only reason I even considered them was because of the numbers on the 1895. I'll try to get out in the next couple weeks with my chrony and see what I'm showing. I didn't chrony the 230's so I don't know on those ones what this machine would have shown.
