Hey guys,
I have a S&W 500 8 3/8" and a Performance Center 460 Hunter with the 12" barrel and I'm trying to figure out the best way to carry either of these guns. I have a Uncle Mikes shoulder holster for the 500 that's relatively comfortable but could be better. The 460 I know is made to be used with a sling but Im not crazy about that idea. Mainly Im just curious about how everyone else carries theirs.

Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Sounds like u already have it covered! Shoulder holster or chest holster and or sling! Or if your going to a certain hunting spot and your not stalking or just going to the range you can buy a gun bag don't know if they make any that will fit revolvers that long tho ESP your 460! I sold my .500 and never really got a chance to carry it but I just got a ruger super redhawk 44 mag and I think I'm going the chest holster route!

. The 460 I know is made to be used with a sling but Im not crazy about that idea. Mainly Im just curious about how everyone else carries theirs. I was the same way until I tried it with a smaller gun that had sling swivels - worked so well it converted me...quickly. Another option for your would be the Pistol Packaging Bandito rig - I don't have one for my X-frame, but it does well in carrying a scoped 10" single action.

Ha ha! The trailer comment is hilarious Whit.
I guess I'll have to try the sling out for my 460 and get some experience with it. Like I said the shoulder holster for my 500 isn't great but I guess Ill need to get used to it. I like using my 500 for hogs so I like it to be holstered as I move through the woods. The 460 is gonna be scoped and sitting on my lap in the deer stand so I guess its not all that important.

MegaTon, I carry my 8 3/8 460 in a bandilero holster that I bought from S&W. It's made of cordura nylon in black. It also has the 460 XVR logo in yellow embroidered in it. Very comfortable and about the only way to sarry this howitzer of a handgun.

Go to http://www.montanaholster.com he custom builds the best rigs around. He made one for my S&W .500 Bone Collector and it fits like an glove. Very comfortable, I walk all day with no problems. Going to get one for my .44 next and one for the wifes .44 as well. You will be very happy with his work. Joe

You may need an adjustment after carrying it all day but all joking aside,
Our very own Wes (Freedom475) makes a fantastic chest holster which he carries a 500 smith in through the mountains of Montana, IMHO its one of the best around and the craftsmanship is top notch http://7xleather.com/
Simple, Elegant, but always Approachable

I don't have a long tom S&W 500 but I've got an 8"Linebaugh 500 max that I sometimes carry around in a damn expensive but very well built and comfortable shoulder/hip rig. http://www.ringlercustomleather.com/catalog/i2.html
