So I saw a post where someone talked about hunting turkey with a contender .45-.410. I normally wouldn't have given this any thought but Kansas is changing the regulations to allow any shotgun not just 20ga or bigger, so although it got me excited for my 28ga, it got me thinking about a .410 in a handgun.
Now I've done some looking around and have found that Rossi has a matched set handgun with a .22lr barrel and a .45-.410 barrel, the Super Comanche and then the T/C Contender.
I was wondering what kind of experience you guys have with any of these with the emphasis being on longbeards.
Also finding this video doesn't help things either http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97bl9qKBHP4&list=FLSyVevFeEj3nqA6y5UAoNVg

I have used a 14" .410 Contender for early season squirrels and like it for that purpose, but have not tried it for turkeys, and frankly consider it too underpowered for them. That's an opinion without proof, but I like to err on the side of adequate power.

If the 410 was legal in MN I would try it, but would limit the range to 10 yards or less. I am going to build a legal 20 gauge pistol for turkey when I get the time.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

s4s4u that 10 yard range was about what I was thinking with my bow I try to limit to 15 any ways and would like to work to get them as close as possible. To me thats why I like archery and handguns.

I have taken several Turkeys with my Contender 10 inch, .45/.410. It shoots a pretty tight pattern out to 20 yards or so. I use #6 shot and stay inside 20 yards and it drops them just like any other shotgun. I don't know about a Rossi or other brands. One way to find out is pattern it. If it puts 3 or 4 pellets in the head and neck area, you should be good to go.

That's pretty good compared to my 10"er. At 20 yards with #6's there are a lot of holes in the pattern and it is fairly broad. Even at 10 yards there are a few places whare a head sized target would go unhit.

didn't find much on the rossi either other than its only 2 1/2in chamber and I'd like a 3in but found this on the super comanche on patterns.

BlueDuck hearing you say that you've taken turkeys with your contender makes me want to try it even more lol.
