Has anyone used a rifle scope on a 6mmTCU or equivalent barrel? I have the barrel in a heavy varmint forend and intend to shoot it from sandbags exclusively.

could only get away with it on my .223 by using 40gr bullets n reduced recoil loads. but i was sneakin up to get full field of view. xphunter backs up from his guns to get more eye relief, and lets the view close in. he shoots some big guns with muzzle brakes in that manner. think he's out shootin long range n havin fun this week. be careful or you'll get whacked in the noggin.

I just got back from SHOTS-Had a great time, but more about that later. I put 50 rounds Friday afternoon through a David White built XP in 6mm-284 (no brake ) shooting the 115 grain DTAC bullet @ 2710 FPS. This was field shooting from the prone position. Scope used was a 6-24 Burris Black Diamond with Ballistic Mil-Dot Reticle. Didn't have a problem with it at all. Was shooting at steel targets from 200 to just under 700 yards with good success.

that barrel really deserves a 3x12 burris handgun scope.

I use a 6x24 rifle scope on my 221 with no problem and have used a 6x24 rifle scope on a 223AI also with no problem. Going to mount one on a 222 barrel next. Been thinking about using one on a 7tcu step barrel for 200 yd shooting

I have a rifle scope on my XP in 221 Fireball, and on an encore in 223. Both work great. The 223 with 60gr bullets jumps a little but off the bench with a firm one hand grip does not get close to my eye. I would think with a little practice you could use a rifle scope on a 6TCU, especially if you were at the bench and could be consistant with your grip. You could even try a muzzle weight to control recoil.

oregon45,
I've used rifle scopes on contenders but, usually it was a rimfire or my 17 Mach IV. If you get a rifle scope that has good eye relief I don't think you will have a problem with the 6 TCU. What bullet weights are you planning to use? Why are you restricting it to the bench? There are ground squirrels in SE Oregon that love the Hornady 58 gr VMax. Scopes like the Burris 4-12 Compact have a fairly long eye relief. If you're buying a scope for this project, be sure to check the manufacturers specs before buying. In the end you will just have to bolt it together and, after checking the eye relief without firing it, make a decision.
Good luck,

I've got a 4.5-14X Leupold LR on my 243 WSSM, and i've found that even with a muzzle break, it's very hard to shoot it, and not tap myself in the nose/forehead, but if i push it away just to the point where i begin to lose full FOV, it's fine.
My .17 Mach IV XP with a 4-12X Burris Mini is no problem at all.

I used one on my 6.5 tcu for a while.I could get great groups but I never could get comfortable with it always thinking about the scope busting my eye brow.It came close a few times.

Ditto sscoyote's comments. Rifle scopes can work great if oyu are willing to use them with less than a full field of view.
