getting a model 700 in 300 savage, any thoughts on the cartridge? was my gramps gun. I figured it seems pretty close to 308 and same bullets etc. I do most my hunting with handguns, but since he passed Im trying to get as many of his guns as I can afford. Got the 17 Remington model 700 last week...pretty nice looking and shooting. Ill have to post pics for you guys in the off topic section

Up in our neck of the woods the 300 Savage was "the" deer rifle for many a year. When I was a youngun it seems all the old guys had a Savage 99 in 300. My Dad has carried one since '58 that he bought after his 4 year tour of duty in the Army. It isn't as fast as the 308 but anything to 300 yards, and a little, was dead meat. I have often thought of chambering a Striker barrel in the Savage, just for old times sake ;-)

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

A classic round, as close to the 308 as it comes,I inherited my fathers 99.
