I guess I go through phases like everyone else, revolvers and single shots have been used for hunting, and Glocks for carry guns,Well I have discovered the 1911, man what a gun, accurate, and fun to shoot, I can see the collection growing already.

I have a Springfield XD-M, but my carry gun is the Springfield TRP 1911. I tried carrying the XD-M for a while, but it fails in comparison to my TRP. I'll carry it till the day I die.

The 1911 has two major things going for it, imho. It is a gun made for tinkerers, and it is the quintessential American handgun. I guess you could argue the 1873 might battle for the latter, but the only thing remotely close to the former is the AR15.

I love the 1911, I haven't bought a lot of them but I've started playing with them again. I have custom I built in 45ACP, a Remington R1 I converted to 460 Rowland with a kit from Clarks and a Chiappa 1911-22. The latter you can find for between 250 and 300 but unless you know your way around lock systems or want to pay a gunsmith to work it over I would recommend it for everyone. The inner workings are nothing like a true 1911. I made special springs to replace the factory ones and I've got the pull weight down a lot from where it was. The nice thing is the 22 is full size and gives you a cheap way to practice.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

My first handgun was a Colt Series 70 Government 45ACP I bought in 1974. I was a big fan of Jeff Copper. Sold that gun to a cop for $100 and picked up a Colt Series 70 Gold Cup that I still have. A great, great gun....
