Just finished casting my first lot of bullets.
Mold is a Lyman 454-300 WFNGC and is throwing them at 0.454-0.453 and 307 gr water dropped WW. I tumble lubed the bullets in a little Alox, then gas checked/re sized to 0.452 and re lubed.

Here is my question:Progression is left to right, does everything look right? Granted the center bullet has very little lube, most have this streaking on the sides. Maybe a dumb question but it seems like it a little excessive. Remember this IS my first time casting and I want to make sure I am at least close to the right track.

Thanks guys I'm having a blast! I had ~70% good bullets my first time.

They look fine. Nothing to worry about. Just make sure you keep your sizing die clean. You might look into a different lube also.

Look good. You are going from an old Colt measurement of .454 to a new 45 measure of .452. The bullet is bound to have some small sizing marks. Should not have gouges though. To grease everything, crank the pressure. Make sure the grease ports are clean.

They look fine, after i load tumble lube bullets, I clean the lube off above the brass, it keeps the gun a lot cleaner.

Thanks guys! they don't have gouges per say but the streaking alarmed me. THis site has been a tremendous help even though all my friends think I'm (pure D') nuts for hunting with a handgun!

I paint my bullets with the Alox lube, its slower but...
1. Its where you want it, not all over the bullet.
2. You don't waste so much by coating the container to tumble them.

I have the same bullet mold but from Lee. I cast, heat treat (toaster oven technique from http://www.lasc.us/HeatTreat.htm), paint the Alox on and let dry overnight, size and gas check, then paint again if needed, and then run those that got the second coat through the sizer again to get the lube packed in the right spots again. I love how these bullets run through my Ruger Super Redhawk.

Buy a saeco or lyman or rcbs sizer luber. The initial cost is a shocker but then bullets are cheap, except gas checks seem to be going sky high.
