Age old question. Which is better, hollow point that may expand and not exit, or the softpoint that most likely will pass on through with little, or no expansion. I'm speaking of whitetail/mule deer type game here, not large and thick skinned and heavy boned like bear. I am guessing there are plenty of pros/cons to each, blood trail, etc.
Would like to hear several opinions. Also I am talking of the .44 magnum but other handgun calibers could be substituted.

Nosler partition or Swift aframe will give you both ,expansion and penetration. Heavy for caliber bullets like the 300gr. XTP with its better SD will do the job as well.

I like two holes no matter how you get there as it gives the animal two places from which to bleed. I tend to hunt with calibers that already have a rather and relatively large diameter, so I would prefer the latter choice. Now, if you can get big expansion and an exit, you are on to something good!

One that has been beaten to death. If you do a search you will find plenty of answers. How about we leave it at that ;-)

It always seems to get ugly at some point.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I'd like my bullet to knock them off their feet, then gut and skin them. It'd be a bonus if it quartered for packing, but that would be asking a lot.

You're not far from cutting him in half as it is.

The best blood trails come from exit holes
