I know each factory varies in this category but what is the average charge under a 240 grain bullet in a .44 magnum FACTORY load. 240 gr jacketed hollowpoint or softpoint.

There's really no telling as all factories load different powders to different levels.

What he said. There are over a dozen different off the shelf propellants that can be used to load a 240 grain 44 magnum in the Hodgdon manual alone, and can vary from less than 10 grains of faster stuff to well over 20 grains of the slow stuff. Some factories use proprietary propellants that the consumer can't get even their hands on. Talked with a Hornady tech years ago who intimated that they loaded 1 grain shy of Hodgdon's max with H110 in their 44 ammo, but that may have changed since. Even if you pull a cartridge down and weigh the charge, there is no sure way of knowing exactly what is in it.

In short, your question has no answer.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
