After using my new 500WE to take animal number two I`am now a firm believer that bigger is better. Picture #1 shows where the red stag fell but picture #2 shows how the .50 caliber 350gr XTP bullet broke a 1/2" limb before hitting the stag at the back of the left rib cage as he quartered away. The bullet traveled through both lungs stopping at the right shoulder. Picture #3 shows some of the blood trail he left during a 50yd run followed by the two 1/2" holes in the lungs. The recovered bullet weighed 318.0grs losing 32.0grs from the original 350grs. The bullet expanded to .868" creating a tremendous wound and terminal effect. As Ken O`Neil (500WE) said to me while describing the 500 Wyoming "I think you will like it", I have to say "Ken, your absolutely right"....

The 350 XTP performs in incredible fashion in that cartridge. Nice animals for sure, James.

Nice! How far was the shot?? Now.. shoot one with out pre-expanding the bullet :). Post pics to compare. So we can see what a 50 cal. does, you have showed us what a .86 caliber can do. Awesome.

Nice James. Real nice. Now ya got the 50 cal bug, and its spreading. I need me a 50something.

Rod, too.

I can help you with this pursuit (I'm a .50 caliber enabler!)!

Most of you guys have such nice things to say and I really want to thank you. For someone that`s trying to learn this sport and has little or no experience they could not find a better place and people then here....
240, Since I was using iron sights I never saw the branch when I fired. All I can say is the bullet blew through the wood and hit where I was aiming.

John, After seeing the damage that the XTP did to the stag I don`t see any reason to use a hard cast bullet, unless I was shooting at a large, thick skin animal which is not in my future, so I will stay with the XTP or Sierra...

Glenn, I always listen to your advice and try and do it "right"....

TGC, Sent you a PM...

don't blame you James,...when I bought my Encore,.500S&W,I seen the price tag on jacketed slugs and thought I would get the Lee mould 440 gr. and see how accurate they shot, cause that was going to be much cheaper than shooting jacketed ,I wanted to try cast on deer anyway ,the s.g.b. I'd been shooting in my .22 pistols convinced me that a flat nose bullet should work on a deer with proper lung shot,...eventually I'm gonna try some X.T.P.'S out of my Encore cause there very accurate out of my other guns-john
