One of my nephews friends was showing me his Ruger Redhawk a few weeks ago. I was suprised to see it was chambered in 357 mag. When, how many, and for how long did they make these?

When: I believe back in the mid 80s
How Many: Few enough to be quite scarce
How Long: Something like 2 years

The guys over on Rugerforum can probably give you some more accurate numbers if you desire.

The .357 Redhawk is probably one of the most overbuilt .357s ever made. Those .357" holes look awful small in a cylinder large enough for a .44mag or a .45 colt.

Okie if you google it you are likely to get as many different answers as people you ask. I've read from 2 to 7 yrs with the last year being from 1985-1991. I have one, I ran across it by chance and picked it up as a conversion project but changed my mind when I saw how rare it is. (now i don't know what I'll do with it) I called Ruger with my serial number and they put a manufacture date of "late 1984" on it. I have witworth's book, I'll check it and see if there's info on it and reply.

It's a pretty rare critter. Not a holy grail gun, but a nice find.

I had a buddy who bought one when it first came out,I should have bought it from him when I had the chance but didn't realize how rare they would become-love the .357 magnum cartridge!!
