I recently bought a used model 83 454/45colt. I've owned several of these over the years, and this one has a way lighter trigger than the rest I've owned. It is a premier grade in like new condition. It's also an earlier model made in 1994. Does anyone know if the trigger jobs that FA did on these were lighter back in the old days? I don't have a trigger scale, but I would say that it is no more than 2 lbs at best. It is an excellent trigger by anyone's standards, but a little too light for the recoil level of this gun. I believe the trigger return spring has been lightened in some way, or replaced with a lighter spring. When the gun isn't cocked, the trigger just doesn't have as much tension on it as the other FA guns I've owned.

UPDATE

I got bored today and took this gun apart. I found that the trigger spring had indeed been tweeked to make the pull lighter. I simply tweeked it the other way, and now my trigger is in the 3-4 lb range.

I would agree 100%. When the adrenalin is running, it's too easy to touch off before you intend to. I find that I tend to have a heavier finger during the hunt, then I do during target practice.

I do not believe that FA will allow a revolver out with lighter than 3# trigger pull. Some of us prefer lighter than that. Thus, the additional work is done after the revolvers have left FA. I have known of revolvers with light triggers being sent to FA for one reason or another and upon return the trigger was 3#.

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.

Yes I'm not sure if that was done by the factory or by the owner before me. I just don't want that light of a trigger on a hunting gun. I can see it in a competition gun, but before when I was shooting off hand, the gun would go off before I wanted it to at the slightest squeeze of the trigger. I actually use the trigger squeeze as a way to kind of steady the gun while I'm shooting.

That's the advertised weight but I have one considerably lighter. The more recent guns are closer to 3#

Well at least I learned how to adjust the trigger weight by having to do it myself. I went ahead and took the whole action apart while I was at it. Not a very complicated thing at all.

Lol! If you think the FA is bad, don't ever take apart a Blackhawk. Much harder to put back together. But still not bad after you do it a few times.
