Has anyone on here had Reeder Custom Guns do any work for them? The ones I've held seem to be really nice for the money.

Rod, Wapitirod, has one in a 475. He'll chime in when he gets time I'm sure.

Well that's what I've heard, but it's kinda like anything everybody has a view, I just wanting to talk with someone who owns one.

I own one - I purchased one of his Ultimate Black Widow's in 44 Magnum. I choose the 44 Magnum just to be different.

I find his work to be very acceptable and this particular Black Widow is very accurate by my standards.

At the range I have noticed a few snicker at the "engraving" but most of those "shooters" couldn't hit a cow in the ass with a handful of flax seed at 2 feet, so I just tell them it's different but damn accurate and then go on to prove my point.

If you decide to purchase one, I for one, think you'll be very happy with it.

I've owned several of his Encore and Contender barrels and they're every bit as accurate as any other custom. However, I detest the "engraving" on them as I find it tacky and feel it distracts from what are otherwise very good barrels, but to each their own. I haven't owned one of his revolvers though...

thanks for the info, pretty cool lookin Bisley, I'm not much for engraving either but I think he'll do it without it if you want. I've never seen a Bowen sight on one of his guns either, not sure why I think there a must but that's just me. I'm thinking about getting a 5-shot .45 Colt built and I'm shopping around

If you don't have a Ruger donor gun yet, you might want to consider buying a used Freedom arms for around $1200-$1400 dollars, and you will probally be much happier with your investment.

I have shot two. One was impressive on target the other was about like an average ruger. The way I look at it are with mixed reviews if you can find another custom gunsmith that do similar work, and are in the same price range with all positive reviews why even look twice. Of course those that I am talking about spend a lot more time fitting and timing the cylinder, line bored so it is in as perfect alignment with the barrel. They spend exactly zero time on engraving. So really it's your choice on what to pay or and what you want.

Here is the deal with Gary's stuff, unless he has changed his practices his gunsmith does not linebore cylinders or do a very good action job. The engraving is a big issue with many but that is more of a personal thing. I've owned three before I started building my own. I had a 410GNR I parted out and built a 454 out of because of set back problems as well as accuracy issues. The other two were both 475's with acceptable accuracy. I've just closed a deal with another member on the last one I own. It's a 6" African hunter that I went completely through the action on myself making it much smoother with a much better trigger break. This particular gun was the best shooter of all three I've had. Since my medical issues have caused me to quit building guns and just do action work and mechanical repairs I've had Jack Huntington finishing my last conversions for my customers and I've been referring people to him. He is a top notch smith and he is also hands on whereas Reeder was only doing the engraving. Overall I would have to recommend another smith although most of the guns from Gary will shoot but it depends on what you are looking for.
