any reason a 255gr SWC at 755 in .452 caliber would not work on a deer to 20-25 yards?

same with a .357 158 SWC at 1120?

Yes, both would work. I would prefer the 44 special load and would prefer it to ~850 fps (still very little recoil).

I agree with Scienceguy. 950 fps is VERY manageable.

Hard to get a ACP that fast with that bullet though

My 44 loads with 255s are plenty quick. These are for some newer guns

Try for 830-850 with the 255 SWC's. See if your gun likes it, and go from there. I run some 250 RNFP's from my 1911 around 800 fps with good results, tried to run them faster but my accuracy dropped.

Tyler,

While I have never done 45acp proper loads with 250 class bullets, I have done extensive work with the 45 Super and Rowland, using Hodgden's Longshot. This powder is also listed as suitable for 45 acp. In my testing for the Super and 250's I have had a few starting charges around 6 grains of LS that had me at 900 fps from a 5" gun. Hodgdon list 6 grains as a starting charge for 230 grain bullets.

I would tend to something like LS for this application. A powder that is little slower than some of the typical 45acp loads, using tiny amounts of very fast powder.

I know 6.5gr of Red Dot makes a very accurate load for my .44 special. I don't know about for a .45.......but you can look into it.

Tyler, is this a 1911 or 45 colt?

1911. Just something to play with. One spot I hunt if you get a 20 yard shot its going to be a long one. I'd like to useit on the ones that walk right under the stand.

Back to your original question, yes that should work just fine. Especially if this is a load you are familiar with and can shoot accurately. At 20 yds, that load should penetrate through on a broadside shot. Have fun, don't worry, and good luck.
