Just out of curiosity, what are the closest and farthest shots y'all have ever taken while hunting with a handgun?

I've been close enough to create powder burns, and the longest shot to date has been about 125 yards with a red dot-type sight.

Forgot to add that this is all with revolvers.

All kinds of handguns or just revolvers and semi-autos?

Farthest shot 250 yards on an antelope. Closest shot about 30 yards on a whitetail deer.

Any handgun.

My son Joe has a good story on a short shot on a big muley buck. I will see if I can get him to post it.

I killed a mule deer buck at 356 yards with my 30-06 JDJ Encore. I revolvered a mule deer buck at 19 yards with my .454.

83 yards with a 44 mag contender.

15' with a .44 special target bulldog, 200 yards with my 30-06 Encore. Longest shot with a revolver was with a .44 special Taurus 441T target model with a 4x scope. 112 yards. reflex264

Closest singed hair on a WhiteTail doe with my .44, longest is my 6x6 Bull in 1996 with my TC SSK Contender 375JDJ...175yards. I also have a big fat doe at 145 yards with my contender; 10" 30 Herrett and a 125 Nosler Balistic Tip...trust me, this one wasn't devastating but it did put her down within 40 yards.

Closest - whitetail doe 20 yards - S&W 629 44 mag with 2x scope right in the eye. No blood shot steaks, no blood trail to follow

Longest big game - pronghorn buck 350 yards - TC Contender 358JDJ with 4x scope. Side lung shot.

Longest varmint - 410 yds groundhog - with Contender .223 Rem with 12x scope.

68 yds, closest and furthest since I've only killed one deer. Other targets like rocks and such have varied ranges.

The closest was a 5 yard squirrel with a Freedom Arms Mini-Revolver .22, and the farthest was a 170 yard pronhorn with an XP-100 .308.

My close shot was 21yds with a 44 mag on a 250lb hog and my longest 127 lasered yds with a 30-30 contender on a whitetail doe.

around 3 yards with a 22/45 on a chuck and 630 yards with the 6BRX striker on a chuck. deer both does 100 yards with 7WSM striker and 496 with 6BRX striker

My closest was this hunting season on a Blue Wildebeest cow at just under 20 paces and the farthest was at a Blue Wildebeest bull well over 200 yards. Both was hunted with my 12 inch 357 Herrett TC.

Closest was an 8pt whitetail buck directly under my tree stand. So I'd say 16'.
Farthest was maybe 80 yds on a doe.

326 yards on a blackbuck with a 7-30 Waters contender was my longest. Shortest revolver shot would be 87 yards on an Axis buck.

Whitetail doe13 steps from the back of my blind with a 10'' contender in .41 mag and 165 yards whitetail spike with a 14'' 30-30 contender.

Using my 375JDJ contender super 14, on a caribou hunt in Alaska, out on the tundra barrens. I crawled as close as possible to 4 Bull Caribou. When they spotted movement, I stopped, laying prone took a (later measured with a laser rangefinder)318 yard shot, thru the heart. I've also had to step OFF the trail to shoot several hogs running towards me on the same trail. I could have pistol whipped them on the way by, but much more effective to take a close revolver shot. so Ill say a 1 foot shot

The longest that sticks in my mind was a trotting coyote. I rested my 14 inch 223 Contender off the top of a t-post and dropped it in its tracks at about 200 yards. As for the shortest I've shot rats with 22 shot shells. (Not sure that counts.)

Farthest was 90 yards on 2 different deer, one was a little 8 pt. with a 308 Encore, the other was a Ohio 10 pt. with my 460 Encore. My closest was a little 3 pt. shot at 20 yards with my Glock 20.

So I averaged everyone's responses, and I came up with an average longest shot of 216 yards and an average closest shot of 22 yards. Interesting.

Revolvers only for me. Furthest was a fallow doe at 158 yards laser ranged with my 10" 454 offhand with iron sights. Closest was a hog with my srh 454 at 10 yards this does not count "stopper" shots at my friends ranch on clients wounded oryx or aoudad

revolvers would be 115yds on a running coyote and shortest would be about 10yds on a deer. Single shots would be 110 on a deer and 253 on a bull elk.

Closest shot-cow elk 15 feet. Longest shot-5 point bull elk 250 yards.

Closest was a whitetail buck under 25 yards.
Furthest big game: Buck antelope 1037 yards.
Furthest varmint: PD past a mile.

Longest, 223 contender with 4 power scope, a fat chuck sitting on a slash pile at 150 yards. Lots of close shots on rabbits, pine hen, etc closer than 10 feet.

I haven't killed anything far off enough to brag sbout. But there was a black bear and a 5x5 Whitetail buck that got within 15 yards.

Closest shot was a cockroach with a Crossman M600 co2 semi auto .22 cal. pellet pistol about 55 years ago. Longest shot was a WT deer at about 100 yards with a Super 14" Contender chambered for the 308 Bellm.

Longest and shortest for my fourteen year old son was a two hundred yard shot at an antelope with my Bisley 45 Colt. He hit that antelope square between the eyes. It was the first living thing he had ever aimed a firearm at. I get more of a thrill out of watching my kids harvest an animal than shooting one myself.
