I was just thinking of the days when I could get 500 rds of 22LR at wally world for 9.86
Now if you can find it its like $35
Anyway lets see some every day use 22 pistols. Doesnt have to be 22LR though (if you like dispatching squirrels with a 454)

My all time favorite bang around 22 pistols have to be the single six and the MK2 target versions. Of the two, I use the MK2s probably the most. Had a nice bearcat built for my son as he grows up, I'm sure that will be what he uses.

Mine is a mk3 target. I would like a single six but enjoy the auto for now. I haven't found a single six that will shoot with the auto. I know they are out there but I haven't found one.

This would be my most carried 22. She`s a S&W model 34 that was hard chromed and had a mag cylinder fitted to the frame. A lot of mileage....

That's nice James. I always wanted a 617. I have shot enough of them to know they will hang with the ruger autos. How does the 34 shoot with the mag cylinder.

MKII, alway a crowd pleaser... And you gotta love that little NAA mini. Fits anywhere. And when those tacks just need to be nailed.... btw, W. German made Beeman 'free pistol' I found it with the 1x scope on it for $240 And this nice, handy dandy 9 shot for two bucks... And you want us to pick ONE .22 we like? I can't think of a .22 I don't like. :-) Even my Heritage Rough Rider is a good gun, for what it is. 'course, maybe I just like guns? Dogsbreath

I snagged a S&W model 63 a few years back but, couldn't see the red ramped front sight so sent it to Dave Clements down in Viginia and he put a new front sight on it for me. StagHag contributed the grips. Now, I'm in love with it! Steve

I like all the posts. I like the fact that accuracy is not the most important item. Keep them coming!

for just walking thru the woods (lower 48) not expecting anything large, I love my S&W 10 shot DA revolver, I think its a 617 revolver. with purpose in mind or rabbit or squirrel, I preffer a Ruger MK II that SSK built 30 years ago, scoped with Leupold 4X. There is a notinable difference in using a 22Magnum such as an AMT automag, or I have a Ruger Single Six hunter, that I installed a Bislet gripframe, trigger and hammer on, and really enjoy that with the magnum cylinder. it is a beautiful gun too

My Kit Gun IS a M-34 Smith, a four incher that I carry quite a bit. But I tend to carry my old M-60 with snake shot, FAR more as I'm snake phobic. The stocks are circa 1972 Fuzzy Farrants. I apologize as well...Not the greatest digital and it's by a gold box, totally wrong era for this gun. FN in MT

FN, After hearing snake stories in NM, I don`t blame you one bit. Always liked Farrant grips. They look great...

I bought those Farrants from Dwight, at Rays Sport Shop on Rt 22 in N. Plainfield...way back in 1972. They used to be a heck of a Gun Shop. Wish I'd have bought 1/2 the good old S&W's I looked at in the USED displays. Thankfully I DID buy and KEEP a few good ones over the years.

Heres an interesting old Kit Gun. A pre model number circa late 1953 gun in original red box. And here's a 4" model that's a bit earlier than the two inch gun above. Three digit serial ,the 90th Kit Gun produced when they started up post war production again. Both are I frame guns, the slightly smaller frame used before they went to the J frames.

Looking into the S&W Governor

Sometimes it is entirely appropriate to kill a fly with a 12 pound sledgehammer!

Looking into the S&W Governor Why?
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

My "Kits" have been a stainless Ruger MKII, and a S&W model 34-1, but on Sunday my dad gave me a Ruger Single Six convertable so now I have 3. I'm going to carry the "Six" grouse hunting this weekend.

I have always wondered about the phrase kit guns. Does it mean a small pocket gun in a small caliber? I think that the caliber is any where between .22 and .38 special. This would include lots of .22 pistols and jump up to the S&W model 36 and the airweights and others. Would it include guns like the Beretta Tomcat, Bobcat? My favorite is a Browning Challenger but it is no means a small pistol. With a six inch barrel, it is as big as my mark III. In fact, i use the same holsters for both, including an Idaho Leather shoulder holster. Just wondering what exactly qualifies as a kit gun?

My little S&W 2213 is the most practical .22 pistol that I've ever owned. You give up a bit of ballistic performance with the short barrel, but the usable trigger and sights make it shoot like a full-size pistol. With a capacity of 8+1 and a weight of just over a pound, it's a go anywhere "Kit Gun" of the first order.

While I've got the usual smorgasboard of .22 revolvers and semi-autos, my favorite 'kit' gun is a stainless Ruger 'Vaquerito', a .32mag on the single-six frame. It's handy, cheap to shoot, I reload and cast my own bullets, (so I don't suffer from the current .22 shortage)and it's plenty accurate enough for taking critters.
It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

My favorite kit gun is my ruger bearcat carried strongside in a ruger holster.... It's great for squirrels and such!
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.
