10mm 200grn hard cast at 1050 fps. I don't plan on using this load(335 grn 45lc for me). Just wondering if it would work with proper shot placement.
Also, for woods carry if mountain lions or blackies were possible but not likely.
Thanks

I read / heard that a hard cast, no matter what the caliber, traveling at least 900fps will work like a champ. But I think that is assuming it is a quality bullet of course.
Just my .02, but take it with a grain of salt cause I still consider myself a "green hat" with hardcast.

What platform are you running the 10mm out of? I know that Glocks do not like cast bullets in their factory barrels, accuracy is abysmal from what I've read and seen on YouTube. Other than that it should work fine.

That's actually double taps load, and performance out of a Glock 23 40 S&W.
I had always heard a 40 is not up to the task, but this load seemed pretty stout, so I thought I would ask the experts.
Seems like an ethical load for a short range broadside deer??

Looks like she just makes it. Still don't think I'll hunt with my new 23...but it's nice to know.

Just remember when you are on the low end of power, shot placement is everything.

Yep. Exactly. I really don't plan to hunt with it, as I have much better options.(7 08, 45lc SBHH)
What I would like to do, is carry it while in the woods for safty. Where we live there are not many cougers or black bears, but they are showing up more and more on people's trail cams, and while bowhunting I am entering and exiting the woods in full dark. Usually on game trails where they might be hunting...
Would 13 rounds of 200grn hardcast 40cal at 1050fps be enough?
I want to carry the glock 23 because I keep my SBHH, and 1911 well oiled, and I try to stay scent free... Plus it is light, and reliable, and has a rail I can attach a light to.
I can shoot it fast and accurate. I don't have to oil it.(much)
What do you guys think???

My wife carries the glock 23 as well. We talked with game wardens around here concerning its effectiveness on lions and bears. Most, not all, but most agree that it is enough for the size of critters we have around here.
She has gotten very confident and proficient with her 23, and I don't care if I had two legs or four, I wouldn't want to test her!

Shoot it 11 times and if that ain't enough stick it in his ear hole as he is chewing on you and give a couple more! Bullet placement is everything.

I load up a 200gr WFNGC from Beartooth in my G23 with KKM barrel to 1150 fps using 800x, and it shoots good. I've not taken a deer with the load yet, but I feel comfy in its ability. I've seen several popped with 165gr and 180gr factory JHP loads and basically drop where they stood, and the 200gr load is going to penetrate much better.
