I have older Tascos that are running strong, but would recommend UltraDot.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Your going to get a lot of UltraDot recommendations. I don't blame them. Mine is still pretty new but I haven't seen an optic receives that much praise at anywhere near as low a price point.

+1 on the UltraDot. They hold up to the most brutal handgun loads.

Ultradot, Ultradot, Ultradot.......
I have abused them to the extreme and they just keep coming back for more.

I used an ADCO for a number of years first on a T/C Contender in 35 Rem, then switched it over to an S&W 629. Put quite a few rounds down range w/o any issues.

Let me just add that I have torture tested with thousands of full tilt .475 Linebaugh rounds (420s at 1,350), .500 JRH load development (440s at 1,350), .500 Linebaugh, .416 Remington Mag, etc. without once missing a beat. I have one mounted to my .50 Alaskan now that I will be testing soon.

Whit, which model and dot size is the scope again. I know you've posted it before. Sorry.

Ultra-dot,..have shot a couple thousand rounds through my Casull and she still works great,...I dropped it twenty ft. out of my deer stand one year, the only thing that happened was it knocked my zero off-about 8 inches to the left,...I zero'd her back in and she's been doing great ,...the incident was a couple of years ago,...but this red dot is I think at least twelve years old, maybe 13.I also have an ultra-dot on my Encore .500 S & W magnum and shes doing great.

I'll be different & say Ultradot. :-) I've put thousands of rounds through my 30mm Ultradot 4 on multiple guns over the last 12+ yrs. Most were from a mod 29 with an unhealthy steady diet of 320s @ 1340fps. Many were through a Marlin Guide gun in 450 shooting 420s @ around 1900fps. For the last few yrs it's been hundreds (close to 1k?) through a 7.5" Ruger SRH in 475 Ruger with 400s in the 1200fps range. All in Alaska, much in inclement weather, abused in handeling getting in & out of trucks & boats, hit the ground a few times, & never a hiccup. It's in Warne QR rings. Yeah, I like it!

I have a Burris FastFire on my T/C 44 magnum and love it. I have used it for 4 years and I am wondering if I should replace the battery before the season starts. Does anyone know how long a battery will last?

I'm a worry wart on red dot batteries. I always replace them at the beginning of hunting season & throw the old one in my backpack for a spare. I would hate to loose an opportunity due to a bad battery. Cheap insurance.

Another UltraDot fan here. Advice get the 30mm one. I have the UltraDot 25 (1") on my back up 480 Super RedHawk. I have an UltraDot 30 on my #1 Revolver another 480 Super RedHawk. You can see much better through the 30mm tube size. Also when ordering get the Flip Up Scope Caps. They are nice. I have the Scope Coat on my 1", and Flip Ups on the 30mm. http://www.ultradotwest.com/Heather will fix you right up. I just ordered a 30mm MatchDot II, and it came in just a couple or three days. If it is in stock they get the order out. Bob

I have an ultradot 25 on a buckmark 22. My 15 year old daughter can preform surgery with it.

Whitworth just curious as to why the Ultradot will not fit the RBHH factory mounts? Is the actual length of the site to short or adjustment knobs not fitting between the rings? Thanks.

The UltraDot 25 and 30 will fit Ruger spacing, but the MatchDot and othe multi reticles won't because the turret is too long.
Rod, too.

This is my first reply. I have very much enjoyed reading all of the topics and conversation ever since I started reading posts on this site. Anyway the reason I decided to reply is I'll be the first one on this thread to say ........"I broke an Ultradot 25". I have had the one I broke today for I bet almost 20 years or more. It was previously mounted on a S&W 686 and therefore wasn't subjected to much recoil. This fall I mounted it in a Freedom Arms (Lovell) mount on a FG M83 4 3/4 inch 454. This afternoon I was on about my 80th round of some mid range loads and the dot went from about 4 MOA to "40"!. Basically the dot became huge and obviously not sharp. It had a new battery, but I changed it out anyway with the same result. According to the many experts on this site, I feel Ultradot will cover this, but my only concern is they will "replace" it. Why is that a problem you may ask? This older Ultradot (compared to the newer ones I have bought in the last few months) has a "much" dimmer setting on 1-5 than the newer ones. I again thought it was battery condition but it was the red dot site itself. I really really liked the low dim settings of the older one, but it appears to be toast now. I just wanted to share my experience.

It is my understanding that they will repair it.
I have abused 30s to the tune of thousands of heavily recoiling rounds in .475 Linebaugh, .500 JRH, and .500 Linebaugh to mention a few of the calibers I have used them on with no failures. But, hey, it happens every now and again.

Just received my Ultra Dot 25 back from Ultra Dot repair in FL today. Came back in the same box I sent it in. No note, but no charge either. I'll be back to pounding it (via recoil) again this coming weekend.
P.S. Whit it was your book that made me consider putting the ole Ultra Dot on the 454. We'll see how the next round goes, but obviously they back their product.

WOW Dano..as long as its fixed that was sure a quick turn around. Does it have the "dimmer" setting that you liked with the old one?
Notice one of the guns in my avatar?? Its yours now

Hey Muddy.....Yes they actually fixed the original red dot that I sent them, but it no longer has the much dimmer low setting. As I think about it, that was probably a warning sign that it was about to fail. The brightness of the #1 setting now equals a brand new one. That's okay, I was very pleased when I saw they returned the original scope and did so in such a timely manner. I do believe I see the Big 10" there! Hey. I put 100 "Dano Loads" through ole Gus' M83 Sunday afternoon. That is such a pleasant and accurate load, I could almost shoot that all day. Take care buddy.
