T/C Contender, serial number 444296 sometimes opens after firing a round. Currently have a 10 inch 41 mag barrel on it. Had this happen in the past with a 44 mag super 14 too. Any ideas?

I had it happen with my 460 S&W barrel from MGM. Sent it back in after recommendations from guys on here, and turns out it was the locking lug that wasn't fitting correctly. They fixed this, and it hasn't happened in several hundred rounds since then.

Does it snap shut? Are they reloads? Full length resized? Send it in.

Yes, snaps shut and opens fine. However, when it opens after firing it will not close unless the trigger guard is pulled back like you would to break it open. Shooting reloads, 13 grains of HS-6 pushing a 180 grain Barnes expander xpb. Full length resided.

Full length resized, not resided.

The locking lug spring is weak. Look at Belm Tc.

Usually this issue is related to the locking bolts in some way. If you are not the original owner you don't know what may have happened along the way. Contendernuts are notorious for tinkering. Someone may have altered the locking bolt(s) to work with their frame and perhaps your's doesn't mate up well. Do you have another barrel that you can swap the locking bolts with?

Also be sure the mating surfaces are clean and free of greese or oil.

Installed a new locking lug spring. Action remains closed now. Thanks for the help everyone.
