I received my bushnell elite handgun scope in the mail today. I was a little disappointed in the field of view compared to my Burris scopes. I was told this smaller scope maybe needed with the full rib on the ssk barrel I am waiting on. Has anyone here had experience with the bushnell elites? The scope is a silver 2x6 variable scope. I don't think recoil will be a problem for it. I'm concerned with fileld of view and light gathering. I'm putting this on a 375 jdj with full rib and magna porting.

They are good scopes. Constant eye relief and hold up well. Field of view may be smaller but I've never had a problem with any of mine. For the money, they do well. I don't know that it will fit on the full vent rib with the standard rings. If I'm not mistaken, I tried that last week on one of mine and it was too big. I may be mistaken but I really think I tried that very thing. You may just need to get some taller rings and it will work ok. I know that a 4x Leupold had very little room on my full rib 375. I think it's a little smaller than the bushie

I have them on .454 Casull, .30-06JDJ, .376 Steyr, and .500 S&W. They stand up to recoil always. Have taken 4 dozen turkeys with the Casull and Brown bear with the .500. Smaller field of view never bothered me with them. Have taken deer out to 150 with the .500 on 6X.

Here's a third endorsement of them. I have them on single-shots in 7-08, .338 JDJ No.2, .375 JDJ, .30 Merrill, .30-30, .257 JDJ and .309 JDJ. Never a problem, and the constant eye relief is a real plus. The field of view is more than adequate for me.

I bought mine over the years from Natchez and Midway, when they were on sale.

I haven't looked lately. The time to buy I guess was a couple years ago when they were updating the line. I see them pop up from time to time on the Specialty pistols forum in the classifieds. Lots of optics change hands there of all types. I've bought a couple there for the $115-$135 range over the last couple years. Just keep your eye open and a money order handy

Yes. But with the excellent service I've had from bushnell , they are local here in Overland Park also. :). I've never worried about it.

Hhmmm...

Let me just say: If you were booked on one of my hunts, and it came down to this and you were hurtin' for the extra $195 or so, then I would absolutely discount my hunt fee to you so that you could buy that handgun scope brand new.

I guarantee you that I have been there and done this and I don't want to see one of my hunters betting their shot at a good buck or a good bull on my hunt on a "used handgun scope." (Unless PRIOR they sent it in and had it factory refurbished...

But OK, no judgement here; that is just me and that is what I have been through and what I have seen personally and that is what I would do...

Once one presses the trigger of a gun with a "new" scope on it one time, the scope then becomes "used". I have many used scopes that were well taken care of by their previous owners and have no qualmes about their ability to put a bullet where I intend it to go. None were sent in to be factory refurbished.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Love the Bushnell Elite's - like Glenn, bought several over the last few years used and on guns. Not for that low lately though, as it seems the silver ones have been closer to the $200 range. Shoulda been like Ken and bought a bunch of the clearance scopes when they updated the line (for $199 if I remember correctly)

Well Gregg, if I'm ever fortunate enough to come hunting with Little Gun Outfitters, we'll just pretend that the scope is one of the very few that I've purchased new over the last 15+ years

Thank you guys; I appreciate it; just lookin' out for all of you.

Rod: I like your slogan about short cuts, BTW.

SChunter: I would be honored; any time.

Gregg

Own 6, never a problem. $299 at Natchez shooters supply. At one time they made a 2X and a 4X, both discontinued. Had a 4X quit after 500 shots from a .338JDJ.

Deer Dad, I had one on my SSK 375JDJ with full rib and it performed flawlessly. I put a lot of rounds thru that barrel in 220, 235 and 260 grn bullets until I dropped it out of a tree stand getting down. It was unloaded and hit right on the back of the scope on a root. Messed it up pretty good. I sent the scope back to them and they said they got a good laugh and sent me a $100 gift check for trying. I had a Redfield 2.5x scope and that is what my 375JDJ is wearing now until I get another Elite.
I had one on my .376 Steyr MOA until I got a Burris 3x12 for it.
Not problems with any of my bushnell scopes.
Mike
