Instead of the tall scope rings, could you just put some of those iron sites on the side like the inner-city glock fo-tays have?
And have you picked out a caisson to carry it?

I did end up getting the 460 tonight.

It came with a holster in the deal.

I'll try and post some pics later when I get home.

Here she is, along with her intended "target".

This was the buck I shot last year.

Beautiful rig!
The one change I would be making & this is just personal preference, is to trade the Leupold for a 30mm Ultradot.
Have a ball with that thing!

Very nice!!! I vote for keeping the Leupold! I put one on mine, and LOVE it! But I don't like depending on anything that runs on batteries in the field, or I'd probably use a dot also.

I recommend keeping the scope on it. Once you begin to shoot at longer ranges, the magnification helps.

I put the photo back in, not sure why the original went away.

Not too shabby. This is the first time I've ever shot a handgun to see how it groups. Lots of rifles and shotguns in the past but todays range work with the handgun was a new experience for me. I was shooting the factory Hornady 200 gr ammo.
\:\)

I shot it @ 50 yards and 100 yards at the range today.

Here's a group of shots @ 50 yds, it's a 3" orange bullseye.

And another 2 shots @ 50 yds, and the other 3 @ 100 yds. But why it's shooting 4" high @ 100 yds and about dead on @ 50 yds I'm trying to figure out.

That is a question that Whitworth will be able to handle for ya, but my guess would be because it is still on the way up to its apex of the arc. The 460, especially with a 200gr bullet, is a long range gun. The 200gr bullets are "scam" bullets because S&W used them so they could say they had the biggest, baddest, fastest, etc....

The 200gr ftx bullets will take deer easy enough, but there are better bullets for the 460 that will really show its ability. I moved to the 300gr XTP MAG's and they are better than MOA at 200 yards. With that bullet, my 460 is by far the most accurate handgun I have.

Might I suggest getting Whitworth's book called "Big Bore Revolvers". You will see him on this forum all the time, and he is FULL of knowledge concerning the big bores (and others). I got his book, and have learned a TON of stuff. It is one of my favorite reference / study books on guns of any kind. Well worth having!!

That load shoots about like a lot of rifles. Most rifles I sight 2" high @ 100 yards, which will put them near zero @ 25-50 on the upswing.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

The only change I am considering is trying a Bushnell Elite 2-6X32 handgun scope. I think the max 6 power might be handy for the longer ranges/range work and being able to dial down to 2 power would be nice for the short range shots. The 32mm objective would be a small advantage to the 28mm as well I would think.

If I do change scopes it probably won't be until after my deer seasons are over in mid-January.

Good decision. That variable power magnification does come in handy at different ranges.

By the way, I have a Nikon Force XR 2.5-8x28mm scope on mine. It's about the same price as the Bushnell, and mine's held up despite what all I've put it through. Just a consideration in case you can't find a Bushnell.
