Hello, Im new to this forum (any forum for that matter) Id like to introduce myself Im 30 and the father of 3 young'uns, and married I work in the hunting industry and love guns and hunting of all kinds. Ive recently got bit by the handgun bug and learning and shooting as much as I can. I have a s&w 629 and a thompson contender with a 14" super match in 22lr and a 10" 30-30 barrel. I also have a few long guns one custom, one foregn, one classic. I enjoy hunting whitetails, elk, and squirels. I live in central Idaho. I hope to hunt Africa and Alaska before Im dead. I also do some of my own smithing. I am an avid reloader and shoot targets with family and friends. Well thats me. Hey, does anyone have any pet loads for the 44 mag (all from a manual of course) Im looking for load data for the 320gr performance cast bullet?

welcome, I use 21.5 grains of w296 with the 320cp, I get good accuracy and I think it was running about 1300, I don't shoot my 44s' much anymore and I can't find my data sheets on that load but I think that 1300fps is pretty close.
I won't be wronged. I won't be insulted. I won't be laid a-hand on. I don't do these things to other people, and I require the same from them. John Wayne-The Shootist

Hey Joe...good to have you along!! I absolutely love the .44 Mag with 320gr bullets. My load is anywhere from 16 grains to 20 grains of Hodgdons H110. The charge depends on the gun. I typically shoot 20gr in all my .44's (I have five or so) but for reference it gives 1320fps from a 7.5" Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter. I've only found one .44 Magnum in which this load was hot. I believe I got this data from Hodgdons which lists 22gr as max. I've found little difference in accuracy from 16gr to 20gr. I've killed several deer with the 16gr load and they are just as dead as the faster (and stiffer recoiling) 20gr load.

WELCOME!! I like my 44's too. I have not worked with the 300gr + bullets yet. My load for the 240's is 14.5gr of blue dot. Max in the Hornady manual is 15grs. I was out for about an hour tonight with that load in my SRH looking for charlies. No luck maybe tomorrow night.

WELL!! The said load in the above post came thru for me. I took the 44 SRH out after a rain tonight and was lucky enough to connect. I stalked close to another, (30 yards) but came up short. The shot went under him. Open sights are a real challenge on these shy and nervous creatures.

Thats a nice critter. I went squirrel (ground squirrels that is) hunting last weekend and connect with a few. I was using my smith 629 with 21.4gr of imr 4227 and a 250 cast slug. That sure do mess em up! I am really enjoying this handgunning. I tried some 320gr cp solids today in the smith, I loaded them over 20gr of lil'gun they are about max for both me and the gun.
