No, but I do hunt with a GP-100. It is an effecitve tool if used within its limits.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I made a bad judgement call with my GP100 using 125gr soft points on a deer. A lot of surface damage, the deer went ten yards and laid down. I thought it was all over. Holstered the GP, walked up to the deer, she jumped up took off and was never seen from again. I am speculating that I may have got one lung at best, but it wasn't enough. I sold the GP and got a SBH 44 mag after that. I'm not saying you should do the same, but please use 158gr soft points or bigger. I have heard that 180gr hard cast bullets really do the job.

Good advice I'd say, and lesson learned.
Heavier is better with wild animals.

Kansas357,

Welcome to HHM! I've had my 6" Security-Six since I purchased it many many years ago. Also picked up a 2.5" and 4" along the way. Fantastic guns, can't wear 'em out. Like the other folks said, 158 gr + for hunting medium game ( antelope, deer, etc. ).

My cousin has an older oned.
He id an action job that would rival a python on its best day
Great guns ,but a 357 is marginal on bigger game.
Not saying they wont do the job, but better options out there.

I appreciate all the good advice fellas, I'm not super new to the handgunning game and have taken a few does with the security six. I was just curious if there were any out there that liked them as much as i do. I'm a hand loader and 158 grainers is as light as i would go with the .357. I carry a 7.5" redhawk in .44 mostly now.

I carried one as a duty weapon as a reserve officer, then when they hired me full time they issued me a Colt 1911 gov. model. I traded it in on something else. I don't remember now. It was a good handgun wish I still had it.
