I just read this on Foxnews.com
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/12/18/end...-to-green-ammo/
After reading it I jumped online and ordered 1000 .45/230gr crn. They were in stock and are en route.

That article would have you believe it's the only lead smelter in the US which it isn't. It was however the only one that made lead from ore as opposed to reclaiming it from batteries, etc. So, the situation isn't as desperate as the writer would have you believe (or the LGS curmudgeons I first heard the all out ban on lead rumor from...) The author also seems to exaggerate the lead ban at the state level as CA has an outright ban, and many others ban lead for certain types of hunting (like waterfowl although this use is banned at the federal level). However, it's always wise to have more ammo than you need just in case!!!

I guess the 22lr gets thrown out the door? I don't if they currently produce any 22 ammo that doesn't contain lead. I guess the run on ammo hoarding will continue.......

Lead is not being banned, yet. It will just cost more.

Thanks for the information, and additional info. I have no idea how much lead used in the gun industry comes from this facility, but I do know what is going to happen. Raw lead ore will be boated or railed to some place like Mexico or China, where it will be processed. They'll use some for dog food and paint and some will be sold back to to buyers in this country ;^) If there is demand, someone will supply it.

I guess if these other places have their own raw ore, then they'll shut down the plant, and associated mining here. Until overseas prices rise enough to warrant the shipping costs. The EPA gets a twofer, save shooters from lead, and get more folks out of the mines onto foodstamps and welfare.

The NRA has commented on this and that smelter closing is not going to do much.

Gary, thank you. That is a relief. I already have the powder and primers and 1000 pieces of brass ready. Excessive ammunition supply is an oxymoron.

And the only news agency that gives both sides of the story. It's nice not having to digest constant liberal bias. JMHO.

So easily duped, I have never seen both sides of any story on Fox. They present one side twice.

We are all dried up of lead scrap at the recyclers around here in Idaho. Seems like bullet molders are everywhere now.

After the shortages we've had the past year, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot more people are taking up casting. Heck, I'm looking into it myself.
