way to carry a scoped SBHH?

I have a older Quiet Hide shoulder holster and use a Bandito holster made of leather sometimes because it has the shell loops if I'm hunting pigs-we get a lot of shots sometimes.

Different gun (7.5" SRH with Ultradot) but I have a Pistol Packaging Bandito that I have used for a few years & it's "OK". Looking for another answer. Considering the Galco Kodiak. Sure wish I could try one first.
I almost always wear a daypack & binos when hunting, so that causes it's own complications.
Wish I had the answer for you (and me!!!).

I use a old uncle mikes shoulder holster that is a pita to keep adjusted and to stop the straps from twisting when putting it on. The only reason I keep it is I have carried a scoped sbh, a srh with red dot, a 14 inch contender scoped, and a competitor scoped in it and they all fit decent. The nicest one I have tried was a bandolier. I like the pistol packaging bandito but haven't forked over the cash for one yet.

Ringler Custom Leather Wyoming Combo Holster.

Worn sort of like a bandoleer style but the pistol rides more like a typical shoulder holster. Nice wide straps to distribute the weight. Easy on and easy off.

I have carried my Ultradot topped SBH Bisley Hunter all day, before sun-up to after sundown and never felt uncomfortable.

I have one of those Uncle Mikes shoulder rigs as well. Total POS. I can't get that thing on or off without looking like I am having a seizure and getting the straps completely twisted up.

7X Leather also makes a pretty nice looking chest holster for scoped guns, although I can't see it being as easy on/off as the Wyoming combo holster. Probably just as comfortable.

You've got that right. I have two holsters from 7X and they are fantastic and priced reasonably for such a high-end holster.



I too use an Uncle Mike's unit on occasion as it will swallow just about anything you stick in it.

I use bandolier type holsters made by a couple of different makers.
To answer your question, I have used carrying straps on several scoped handguns, but found that the guns were unprotected, subject to dust, twigs, mud, rain etc. and subject to swinging if carried on the shoulder, or slow to get into operation if the sling was over the head / behind the neck. All in all, I found it to be a poor alternative.

When carrying a handgun I prefer that it be completely controlled and held tight to my body. A sling or carrying strap allows it to swing around if worn over one shoulder, or makes the gun difficult to manipulate if worn cross body.

While I really like my Wyoming Combo Holster, that 7X rig that Whit has on looks very nice as well. I carry my iron sighted SRH in a Simply Rugged Sourdough with my own design chest harness that holds the gun very similarly to the 7X rig. There is really no substitute for a properly fitting and secure holster.

Whit, I've seen the pics on the 7X site, but was wondering if you have any pics with the SRH & Ultradot with a pack & possibly binos. I almost never leave the truck or camp without both. Is it comfortable under a pack?

Vance, your gear set-up sounds similar to mine. I'd imagine that this is how a fish feels in a net. If you find the perfect set-up before I do, please send a note my way!

My son and I both carry one in a "Pistol Packaging Bandito Rig"; He carries it more than me, but it's our preferred method.

The chest rig + pack work very well together. I position my rig so it sits pretty squarely in the center of my chest (between the pack straps) and I have no issues wearing a daypack on top.

The binos are another story. When I wear the chest rig and pack I can't wear my binos. I normally use one of those bino harnesses and it would put the binos squarely on top of the gun.

I have found that I can only comfortably wear two of the three items (gun, pack binos).

If I want the pack and gun then the chest holster works
If I want the binos and gun then it is the Wyoming Combo Holster.
If I want the pack and binos....hmmm, what use would that be?

This method might not be as

"showy"

or

"cool"

as some others, but the bottom line is that it works for ANY large scoped handgun and it is the last word in ultimate protection and carry ease (as it can be swung around to the side, back, etc.) for the weapon in about any circumstances; including:

Rain,snow, mud (if the hunter desires to slide on their belly in a stalk it can NOT be beat for this purpose!) and etc.

And I have used this type of rig for carrying large scoped handguns personally for decades and have never had a need for anything different.

The key word here is "need."

However, I concede: "QUICK DRAW" is another topic; for sure.

Simply buy the correct pistol case and modify it with the proper carry straps.

But if you are lookin' for the "cool" factor; this may not work for you. And that's OK too.

I have a Ruger SBHH .45 Colt that is scoped with a 2x Nikon. I purchased a Bianchi 4101 Ranger. Seems to work really well.
