I have a buddy that is just getting into handgun hunting, he bought a contender with two 10" barrels, one in .22 hornet and the other in 30-30. I told him we could start working up a gun specific hunting load but I have never played with a 30-30 outside of my super 14. What should I take in to consideration with a tube that short? Is anybody else shooting a 10" 30-30, and if so what powders and bullet weights are giving good results? I'm not really looking for reload data, just trying to start fishing where other are geting bites. Any sugestions are welcome.

I have a 10" 30-30 contender and it is super accurate!! One of the mast accurate guns i own. Not sure of the exact load without looking it up,but using the nosler 125 grain ballistic tip over reloader #7 powder.

Thanks for the tip. I will look into those noslers.

I agree with a 10 inch contender barrel 125 grainers would be better. Just as a suggestion sierra makes a fnhp 125 grain #2020 it is designed to expand at lower velocities. With rl7 I can load these to a little over 2200 f.p.s. out of my 14 inch barrel. I have no experience with a 10 inch barrel though.
