I stopped at a gun shop out of town the other day as the old guy that runs it has been into handgun hunting for many years, with 3 IMSHA state championships, and some beautiful trophys on the wall all taken with a super 14 in 30-30,he told me the bushnell tropy reddots were excellent quality, has anyone used them and if so what are your opinions?

I have never used one but I can tell you there is a ton of recoil & shock difference between a Super 14 30-30 & my 7.5" 480 SRH with full house loads for a red dot to put up with.

Dave,
I borked one a long time ago. I disremember what it was on, but probably my FA 454 or a Guide Gun in 45-70. I think this was the model that let you choose between different reticles. Again, it was a long time ago. With dots, I either want proven quality from reports (or price) or a good warranty.

Torque that baby down and give it a good workout. If its gonna go south it will usually happen early. There's nothing wrong with a 6 minute dot, as long as you're not targeting squerls @ 50 yards. You can still find the vitals on a deer beyond 100 yards, and it will be quick to find the reticle in the bush.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Abit of encouragement and Ill be happy to take it Rod,tho afew years back I burned up 49 454 rounds in a few hours trying to shoot red wing blackbirds of the tops of cattails in a slough with a 4 moa Ultrdot that I should never have sold.

I have a couple of 1" 4 minute dot ones in service, that I've had several years. No problems yet, but they are on moderate recoil guns. Put it on & use it.

I have had a Bushnell Trophy red dot on my 12 in. 45-70 contender for 10 yrs. or more and it has never given a minutes trouble. Lots of 300 grn. jhp's and several deer. The dot is too big for precision work but is ok for deer to 80yds or so. Black birds or squirrels? Good luck with that, its a BIGGG DOT, .
