Just went out and tested a few of the new "Cutting Edge Bullets"

WOW! these things will shoot!!

Load Specs

100 Yards over the hood of my Truck
23*F no wind
Freedom Arms 83 475 Linebaugh
6 Inch Barrel
Starline Brass
2x Leupould scope
340gr solid copper Cutting Edge Bullet
26gr Ramshot Enforcer..(why 26gr? Because 27gr won't fit!)
Rem LP 2 1/2 primer..( I think this is important because a CCI 350 may make this load TOO HOT!?!)

For the first load tested..real happy with velocity for five shots..
1352fps
1350fps
1341fps
1342fps
1348fps

Extreme spread of 11 fps

For a revolver she grouped real nice...the high shot was my fault...I let the grips catch on my rear wrist-bag and the revolver jumped straight up as the shot broke.

With the lighter bullets, Recoil was pretty mild for this revolver..The 430LBT's I usually shoot really bark in comparison.

Nice shooting. I cant believe a 6" revolver can be that accurate.

Why not? Nothing inherently inaccurate about a short barrel.

Nice shooting, Wes!!

Good shooting Wes! That 2X in the Lovell mount is perfect for a 6" gun!

Have you tried any of the 280gr HG Raptor's out of your .475?

Thanks guys!!

What I really love about these new Cutting Edge bullets is the recoil reduction. The Full-House" 475L can be quite a handfull with 430grLBT's or 400gr XTP, and it downright sux on the FreedomArms83 plattform...just too many razor sharp edges to slice you open.

And to think you can take up some contorted field postition and fire it....forget about it!!! This thing will tear you to shreds.

I sighted the FA in with the CE 280gr HP Raptor at 100yards and the CE 340gr copper solid still hits to just about the same point of aim. I am excited to continue working with the CE copper bullets, as I think I may/should be able to squeeze 200-300 fps more out of the 475.

The 280 HP Raptor is like a flying "AshTray"...but it still holds accurate at long(er) ranges....I hope to try some different powder and maybe, I can get 17-1800+ fps out of them. The tragectory should really flatten out.

They way the blades shear from the CE Raptor, it should still kill very well, waaaay down range.

As Wes stated these bullets the key is finding the optimal powder for the particular caliber, these bullets can't be loaded with the traditional 296/h110 and expect to the get the most out of them, they don't build enough back pressure to make those slower powders burn correctly.

But as seen here they are accurate and from what has been seen already they kill will authority.

I don't have permission to post the photos here, but check this thread

From CEB, however, it is not complete -- yet.

Good shooting buddy. There are a few of us working with these right now also testing on a few vermin when we have time in 45, 44, 475, 500, and 510. I'm hoping to get to the 510s very soon, time just hasn't allowed for it yet. We plan to do a neat article on them when we have compiled what we think is enough good pictures and load data for the ones we are working with. I'm looking forward to it. Very neat bullets! Thanks for sharing your success!!

very neat indeed... I knew they had these for rifles but had not seen the new handgun line. It will be interesting to see how they work on game

Wes, That is some good shooting.... Talked with an engineer at C.E.B. about hollow point design and what my hunting plans were and had them overnite a selection of solids and HP`s. I can`t wait to see terminal performance on live game...

I used the 44cal 200gr Raptors this fall. I loaded them in a Forester Sabot and shot them out of my CVA Optima Pistol over 100gr of Blackhorn 209.

Loaded in this manner the Optima Pistol with an UltraDot shoots the CEB Raptors like a lasar. Groups from it at 100yards look just like the group posted with the 475L.(without the flyers)

Managed to kill 2 whitetails with it. The buck was around 135yards and the doe was a bit further. Talk about the "Hammer-of-Thor"..both deer just crumpled at the shot. Both deer recieved spinal tramma from shoulder shots..The buck was quartering towards me and the doe away from me.

My buddies couldn't believe it..."Whoa!!...With a pistol!!!" (I don't really consider the optima configuration a "pistol"..more like a "pifle")
...The CVA's accuracy and power really make it fun to shoot.

I couldn't ask for better preformance from the bullets. My buddies took pictures with there phones, but I have yet to recieve the pics...guess I need to bite the bullet and actually get a cell phone

Glenn,

510's are not designed just yet, the CEB boys have a few other projects coming up first but they will be on the horizon. These bullets have been true performers as Wes has said.

I been shooting the .44's and .45's coming up on a year and have been very impressed, the media tests have been nothing short of impressive even impacting heavy bone.

I have been eyeing those and the Woodleighs. Was planning to order 510s tomorrow. I'm still gonna call first thing tomorrow because they are still showing 17 boxes available for shipment as of tonight on the website.

Vance, the ballistics tech at Western powders told me that the Barnes copper(XPB) data would work just fine of the CEB's.

What I found is that it is just not possible to fit enough slower "pistol" powder under these ultra long coper bullets. With Ramshot Enforcer/Accurate4100 (as long as you load to the crimp groove) you can just add as much powder as it takes for the bullet to just "Bump" the powder charge,,,and this is your load. You will still be quite a ways under the starting load for an equal bullet weight.

I think faster powders like A#7, and HS-6 are going to prove to be just what the doctor order for these long, light weight coppers..

We tried some H110 out in .45 Colt and it's just too slow. Doesn't pressure up with such little resistance. However, I managed to get my hands on a can of Blue Dot and will resume testing as soon as I can clear my plate of the 2,000 other tests that lie before it........yikes. I have a number of calibers I am trying to test with CEB bullets, just got to find the time. Interested in hearing about all of your results as it may save me some time. Thanks.

I just took out a few of the 280gr 475 CEB Raptors. Sure is fun to be shooting

I loaded 10 and shot 9 into the target at 100yards and 1 round over the Chono.
Here are the results:

By crowding it a little, I was able to get 1 more grain of Enforcer under the Raptor..so I went with it. I know I'm a velocity junky, (probly came from shooting the 454 Casull for so long). I like to shoot far... But I also like big(er) holes in a revolver "that I can actualy pack",,,it's a compromise

Yeah I know, I got 2 bullets off doing "who-knows-what" (so frustrating
!!)
But the rest of them snuggled right in together.

Details;

100 yards
27gr Ramshot Enforcer
Rem 2 1/2LP primer
Starline brass
280gr CEB solid copper Raptor
FA 83 475 Linebaugh
6 Inch barrel

Nice Shooting!

It seems the performer is 4100 and coming in second is 2400, but glad to see the consistency in velocities.

Its nice to see the camera now works..it only took 4 months..

Wes,
It looks like your 475 is starting to loose accuracy; you might need to sell it to me now before it really looses value.

Very good shoot'n! I can't wait to see some field results from those bullets.

Hey, come'on...6 of those are touching the same 1" square
But actually my FA does have a little forcing cone erosion :(I can't explain the 2 flyers, as the shots all seemed to break clean...maybe I better shop around for a new one. I was holding a round butt 44mag FA83 today that was really calling my name.

Wes, what impresses me the most is that you're using a 2x it appears. I can't use them! I'm better off with my eyes. I need a 4x or nothing. The 2x version looks farther than with irons to me. Nice shooting bud.

Glenn, yep, it's a 2x...I know what you mean, the X-hairs just cover the entire target center. I really prefur the UltraDot, but it wont fit my Lovell mount on my FA.

Buy you a TSOB and slap it on there
\:\)

I remember the hardest deer I ever shot with my 454. It was a young doe at about 120 yards angling up a hill to me in the edge of a food plot. I swear it took me 5 minutes to feel comfortable with the shot she looked so far in the scope. At the shot, she was legs in the air. The 300XTP mag hit her on the point of the left shoulder and exited the opposite hindquarter right by her butt. Full length penetration so no tracking! BUT...I swore I would NEVER use a 2X Leupold again..and I haven't. My eyes were watering by the time I finished pulling the trigger that evening..hahaha

There's a Nikon 2 power scope sitting in the gun safe that got replaced early on. I thought a 2X magnification was all I needed, until I set the target out at 50 yards. Freedom, if you can shoot that well at 100 yards with a 2X scope, you are a much better shot than I am.

I am glad you guys are working out the details with these CEB handgun bullets. I picked up a couple of boxes for my 300 Blackout a year or so ago, and got a little sidetracked in my testing. Something about lathe turned bullets gets my heart a beat skippin', just a little ;^)

Got out and shot some CEB's again today.

I was a little windy, but still fun to be shooting.

Today's shooting was done with my Ol'Reliable SBH 44mag

Groups were shot with the Raptors, but I also shot a box of 240gr cast bullets over 10gr Unique just for fun.

Info:
.429 200gr CEB Raptor in 44 mag
21gr Ramshot Enforcer
Rem 2 1/2 LP primer
Mixed brass
Ruger SuperBlackHawk...(yeah "the" real one with the square trigger guard)

7 1/2inch barrel

Factory Iron Sights

Velocity=1486-1490fps most shots stayed within 10fps, but with the mixed brass and the fact that I didn't really crimp these.. I did get some extreme spreads as low as 1438 fps and a high of 1504 fps for the 18 rounds that I chronoed.

Accuracy...was still great as far as I am concerned..it was a little tough getting a good sight picture with the factory irons in todays light... I had really good success Raptors, hitting my various range targets from kneeling as well as over-the-hood sandbags.

My targets are a 4ft square pallet on a post at 100yrds, Several Bar-b-Q propane tanks (empty setting on rebar) at 150,240 and 290yards. A 20" yellow plastic livestock tub at 266yards and a 2/3scale buffalo at 250yards.

I managed to put some great hits on all my targets today and shot 2 nice (for me) groups on paper. The propane tank at 290yards was a tough hit today!! But there is no doubt when you hit it,,,the propane tanks really Sing when you hit em'.

I was thrilled to put several hits on the livestock tub from kneeling field position...the plastic THUMPS nice and loud when you hit it
The bufflao is pretty much a "Gimme" from the sandbags...but still quite challenging from field position.

Here are some of today's Pics:

My range..little hard to see the targets, but you can make out the pallet and maybe the buffalo(if you look hard)

Looking back from the Buff

100 yards on the pallet Iron sights

And the Crow at 100 yards Iron sights!...these little stick-on's provide a real nice, small aiming point against the white pallet

Mister, why do you carry a 45? "Because Sam Colt don't make a 46."

Very nice. I'm ordering the 200s this week. I don't have enforcer but I'm sure I can come up with something. Plan to use them in a 10" scoped super this year. Thanks for sharing and great shooting as always!
