I might need to buy a shorter rear sight for my 8 3/8 Model 27 Revolver. Rear sight is bottomed out and bullet still impacts 2inches high at 25 yds. I have a .146 rear sight kit from smith and wesson and it seems identical to what is on the gun other than the white outline. I can't find anything that measures .146 inches on the sight blade, not the slot depth, slot width, or blade height. What does the .146 dimension refer to? The next smaller kit is .126. Would that be the shorter sight blade that I need? I'm just not sure. If I get desperate I could just start filing on one of the blades.. I do have two. Anyone know for sure what the story is? Never thought 180 grain Cast bullet would cause me so much trouble.

The deal is - If you are shooting high, then you need a shorter rear sight or a taller front sight. If you are shooting low, then you need a taller rear sight or a shorter front sight.

From his post, the OP knows that. Rbecker, to correct point of impact 2 inches at 25 yards, a rear sight about .018" lower will be required, depending on how you see the sights, and hold, etc. The .146" should refer to the blade height. I just measured the few that I have here, and find none of that height. If that is indeed what you have, then the .126" sounds just right for correction, and will allow you to be up a click or 2 or so from the bottom.

That is what I was hoping 500we. I have several Model 28s that are just fine with the load. I picked up the 8 3/8 Mod 27 couple months ago and ended up with this issue. I like the load and it is accurate and doesnt lead guns too much. 180grain Missouri RNFP over 6.5 grains Bluedot Fed 200 primer. 38 special case.
Thanks for your input. Sight kits are cheap from S&W at about $10.
