I know this has been brought up before but I have a bunch of these and wonder If anyone has a load or can point me in the right direction for a load for these around 1300 to 1400 in casull brass Hornady was of no help.

I'll check my notes for you when I get home. I've used a couple of powders to create loads in that velocity range for my 460 using the 240 grain XTP-Mag.

The Speer manual has some reduced loads for Speer's 250 and 260 grain bullets. I'll check that too, if you don't have it.

I would think you could do that pretty easily with some HS6. I would probably start about 15 grains and see what you get and go to possibly 16. Never tried it but I bet it would be close knowing what I use in the 45 colt every now and then.

Yeah HS-6 should do this velocity just fine.

FWIW..I used to shoot the 250 xtp's to full house 454 velocities with h110/296 when I had a 454. I didn't see the overpressure extraction problems with the FA83 like I did when I tried them with the 460S&W.

I shot an elk with one of the full-house 454's with the standard 250XTP's one time at about 50-60yards....The bullet just blew up. The butcher said, " Holy Smokes! What did you shoot this with?!!!" It blew a bowling ball sized hole in the heavy vertebrate of the cows neck.

Mister, why do you carry a 45? "Because Sam Colt don't make a 46."

The two reduced loads I've experimented with in my 460 use A5744 and AA No. 9. A5744 is a bit more consistent with regards to velocity, but due to the shortages I tried No. 9, too. The Speer 14th edition has reduced loads listed using those two powders in the 454 Casull for the 250 and 260 grain bullets. The starting and maximum loads for A5744 are 26.0 and 28.0 grains at 1225 and 1341 fps, respectively. The starting and maximum loads for No. 9 are 23.0 and 25.0 grains at 1323 and 1375 fps, respectively. All the Speer loads were tested in a Freedom Arms revolver with a 7.5 inch barrel.

Out of the two, I'd recommend A5744 for consistency, although it's bad about barrel fouling.

Other reduced loads listed include the following:
2400 - 24.0 to 26.0 grains at 1422 to 1531 fps
Viht. N110 - 23.0 to 25.0 grains at 1381 to 1499 fps
IMR 4227 - 27.0 to 29.0 compressed grains at 1248 to 1399 fps
Ramshot True Blue - 14.0 to 16.0 grains at 1164 to 1325 fps
Viht. N350 - 13.0 to 15.0 grains at 1129 to 1277 fps

I've used 28 grains of IMR-4227 in an FA 83. Makes a great 44 mag equivalent.

Anytime. The Lee is a very good manual to have around as they cover a lot of powders the other books don't.
