Wanting some feed back on other guys with Raging Bull Revolvers. I am planning on a 44 mag or 454 casull for my first wheel gun. I have a 41 rem mag in a 14 inch MGM contender and enjoy shooting it a bunch but wanting to step up to a revolver and more power. I have settled on the Raging Bull and I know I can find 44 mag ammo and components easier than the 454, but I like calibers that are not main stream or the norm. I am a reloader and I know I can lighten the loads on the 454 down easily to the power level of the 44 mag and then power up the loads for bear or elk. I have a shot a 41 rem mag in a tracker and it was sweet to shoot. I know the Raging Bull is more of a power house but that is what I am wanting to step to. How does yours shoot?

Can I ask why the Raging Bull over the Ruger SRH or BFR if going 454?

I will never buy a Taurus revolver. I know many folks like them and have had success with them, but I personally have known two people who owned a Taurus revolver and both had nothing but problems with them and got no love from their CS.

Rod, too.

I too would lean towards a BFR or a Ruger SRH in .454. I'm testing a new SRH in .454 right now and it is one of the most accurate revolvers I have ever shot.

I'm not saying Taurus is bad, but I've owned two that were very bad. First one was a little .38 2". It worked well for what it was, but developed timing issues after about 40 rounds of light 38 special. Second one was a 44 magnum raging bull. Very light handloads would not eject. Had that fixed with a new cylinder from Taurus and a LONG wait, then cylinder became so loose it was shaving lead (again, very light handloads).

I'm sure any manufacturer has some problems, but for me to get two in a row - both new - was enough for me.

I bought a beautiful, probably never shot, used SRH for under $800. I will own nothing but a Ruger or hopefully a BFR in the near future. I hunt and shoot my SRH with full-house hunting loads even to practice. It shows absolutely no wear indications and will probably outlive me.

Save your money and buy quality, even if it is used. You won't regret it later.

I may be one of the few on this site that loved my Taurus Raging Bull in 454. I also owned a model 44 in 44 mag. I really liked that one too. I had NO quality issues with either of my Taurus'. My Raging Bull was more accurate than my Freedom Arms & more comfortable for my wife to shoot than my Ruger Super Redhawk. That is one pistol I wish I had back, particularly now my wife is hooked on handgun hunting too.

I have a Ruger SRH in 454 and just sent the cylinder to T&K for 45 moon clips in 45 ACP. So I can shoot 454, 45 Colt and 45 ACP. Mine has a Ultra Dot with 30MM rings and its a great setup. This next season will be my first with a handgun and I am working up loads for it now. Still deciding on a carry rig lot of choices and I will be wearing it over clothing as the weather in Indiana for deer can range from 70 degrees to -10 it gets crazy. I have never own a Raging Bull and therefore can not comment but Rugers are rock solid Good luck

I have Raging Bulls in .41 Mag., .454, and .500 S&W. I've had no problems with them. They are a pleasure to shoot and are extremely accurate.

Thanks for all the feed back. I have also looked at the Ruger Super Redhawk and I think they are a good gun but I have friends that are not sold on them either. All a matter of opinion. Some of the links that has been posted is alarming and I will keep that in mine before I buy one. That is why I thought I would get some feed back. What better place to ask. I am sure people like the grip style on the Freedom Arms and the BFR's but I favor the grip styles of the Ruger SRH, Raging Bull, etc. and the rubber grips. I like the built in porting of the Taurus also. I will look at all of them. I had found a custom shop SS S&W .460 that was ported at a gun show last month and almost bought it. Hope I don't regret that. The big plus with a 460 is that you can shoot all three rounds in it. What is the accuracy like shooting the 454 Casull in the 460 chamber?

Dvan, I may not be the best shot in the world, but I never really noticed a difference in accuracy when I fired the shorter rounds out of my 460. I'd still recommend using 460 rounds instead of 454's. In my experience, the felt recoil between the two isn't that much different. Of course, if you can only find 454 ammo, use it.

I'm just going to say this about .454 SRHs:

5-shots, 100 yards, factory loads......God knows what it could do with a scope and some magnification.

I had timing issues with mine as well, and had to send it back to Taurus.

I too would go with the Super Redhawk. Taurus is not god at all if there is a problem. The Ruger will not have the problems and it is US made.

In a nutshell, my srh is a capable and accurate hunting handgun that i love. All my raging bulls are broken. I dont love them anymore. The 460 is awesome though and i dont find it too bulky

Buy a Ruger SRH. Forget the Taurus.

That is the thing. I've typed this before, but again, not long ago the taurus price reflected the "coming up a bit short". But not now, they think they can price there products like S&W and get it. I own some taurus products but I'm not paying the prices they are asking now, when you can get a super blackhawk for $550 for the .44 mag.

There is nothing wrong with Taurus Raging Bull. I have one in 454 and have the Ultra-Lite 444. Both have great triggers and have had no issues with either. I have had numerous handguns including model 28 S&W, Ruger GP 100, S&W 4506, Encore 45-70, (2) different Ruger Super Blackhawks in 44 & M&P 9c. My current handguns are S&W 629 5" Classic, which I thought had an excellent trigger until I bought the Raging Bull 454. Granted it's finish is nothing like my 629, but as a hunting revolver it is awesome! Also has much better grip!
