That's going to be a hard bullet for standard colt loads. I'd probably try the 250 XTP at some point.

I would, but they seem to be a little scarce at the moment.

I have 2 boxes posted on the classified.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Stick with any of the non-mags for the 45 Colt. They need to be pushed hard to get much of any expansion.

Hornady recommends 1,100 FPS minimum on impact for proper function for both the 240 and 300 XTP-MAG in 45 cal, and I believe them.

For the 250 XTP:

26 grains H110, WLP, 1,400 fps

13 grains HS-6, WLP, 1,050 fps

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I LOVE the 13 gr of HS-6, WLP, 250-320 bullet suggestion. Great power, low recoil, accurate.

Yea, you can use 13 for just about any weight or style of bullet, a 300 runs about 50 fps slower. It has a snap to it but not nearly the thump of the H110 load. You can up to 15 grains of HS-6 with a 250 if you want a little more speed but that load shoots good.

Rod, too.
