I want to thank all of you for the warm welcome to this group, it was an honnor to serve our country and even though Im now disabled at 26 years old I would change nothing, and I have nothing but pride. As for my venture into handgun hunting I have just gotten an Encore in 243 Win so Im going to need some advice, tips and pointers. I look forward to conversation and doing business with all of you. God bless
Dave

Dave, welcome to the HGH. Did you trade the Berreta for the Encore. I posted on one site last night I would like to see photos of it. If you did trade, congratulations on a good trade. I have two .243's in the Encore and it is becoming one of my favorite barrels.
When I first got my .243 I couldn't wait to shot it so I went by BassPro and got a box of Federal Power Shok, 100 grn softpoints. They shot a 1" group at 100 yds and ran 2860 fps from the 15" brl. I set zero at 100yds and they hit 3" low at 200yds. Great round. Took 5 Prairie Dogs with this load at 150 to 210 yds. Now I'm loading 100grn Hornady SP Intelocks for a Antelope hunt in Oct in Wyoming.
I'm using 33grns of Varget and the 100grn Hornady. Haven't chrono'd them yet. I'm getting consistent 1/2" groups at 100yds from the bench and a 2x6 scope.
Good luck with your handgun and keep us informed.

Mike

No, thank you Dave for your sacrifice. Thank you for doing what I can't do, and for helping keep me and my family and my beloved country safe. Your one of the greatest Americans i know and you're welcome in my house any time.

The only advice i can give on your Encore is to shoot straight .
