Want to go fall bear hunting in either Wisconsin or Saskatchewan for black bear. By stats their is more B&C recorded black bears from Wisconsin than Saskatchewan but have heard several people always talk about the bears are bigger in Canada. Would like some feed back and help on the subject. I know the disadvantage with Canada is no handguns.

Wisconsin, you can't hunt with a handgun in Saskatchewan. If your looking to put one in the book, Wisconsin. Easier to get to, no hassle with custom folks.

dont know nothing about B&C but fur-fish-game last month notes that Penn. had "58 weighing 500 or more and nine that topped 600 pounds. the heaviest taken in lackawanna county, weighed an estimated 772 pounds." all sound like good bears to me

We are getting some massive bears taken in PA. But there is no baiting allowed here. Most folks team up in large groups and track/chase them down.

the downside to Wisconsin is that you are going to have to wait about 6 years to get drawn depending on the hunt area. It takes a long time even for the residents. but if you do get drawn, you can hunt with bait or dogs or both. Some big bears in Wisconsin though

check out this link http://www.outdoornews.com/July-2013-1/High-demand-for-bear-harvest-tags-means-a-wait-for-hunters/

It will give you a little more insight in what you will be getting into with Wisconsin

Yes I read an article in Predator Extreme magazine on the long wait on bear tags in Wisconsin. The article also talked about Penn State also have huge bears. I will have to pick up a copy of Fur-Fish-Game.

might be worth the wait though, just depends what you want. like the link I posted said, success rates are quite high in Wisconsin once you get that tag.

in perspective, I believe MN's success rate is usually around 30% statewide

You could also check out NC bears. Tags over the counter and can use handguns. You cant hunt over "placed" bait. A lot of folks leave standing corn in the fields or run with dogs. HUGE (weight) bears!!!!

Bigger ain't always better....according to who???

I called a guy in Wisconsin and his success rate has been 100% over the last 7 years. I am sure I will start putting in for preference pts. Pa & NC would be great but Canada is a lot closer and I guess we will have to deal with their regulations. Probably take my T/C ML or with a rifle barrel. Anyone had any experience with outfitters in Saskatchewan?

I hunted Wisconsin a couple years ago and had a great hunt. I saw 9 bears in 2 days. The outfitters I was with had 9 hunters and opening day we saw 43 bears total. I highly recommend a Wisconsin hunt but it will take about 7 years to draw the tag but it only cost $4.00 a year to put in for the preference point. You can apply for the point on line from March through sometime in December. I can not wait to go back. I have started my daughter on points also.
