I have always been a fan of the 45. Recently I have been thinking about a new carry gun and have wondered about the 40 S&W. Can anyone sell me on it ?

I am also a fan of the 45 acp and the 1911,something about the history and the feel of one of the greatest combat calibers and combat handguns in this countries history. However I believe that for a carry gun, the 40 is the better. The cartridge will fit in a more compact firearm and with its increased speed, will maintain the same energy and stopping power as the 45. My only wish is that are brothers over seas could have such a great cartridge instead of the weinie 9 that is the standard issue. These are only my opinions though and the choice is ultimatly yours. joe

.40 S&W is a fine cartridge. With good ammo and good shot placement, you have a good channel changing combo. I would suggest go and shoot several models in that caliber to see if you're comfortable with it. Also, make sure that it is something that you can practice regularly with, because shot placement is the most important thing in a gunfight, right after having a gun . Ammo is readily availible at Walmarts, so you're good there. I would suggest checking out http://www.stoppingpower.net , there is a wealth of information about carry weapons and calibers there, as well as good decent folk who dont put up with trash talk on the forum. Just the most important thing, be able to shoot it accuratly.

Hey Dan B - Now why in the world would you be wantin to sell that Kimber that you jsut bought ?? I have been thinking of a new carry gun, just because I NEED one and I read the article on the new CZ in the Am Rifleman. Sounds in print like a great carry gun. Cosidering your Kimber,....lets see,...if I remember correctly, you paid about a hundred bucks for it,...so calculating the wear factor and all,......should be worth a little under a hundred bucks, right ???....and you'll pat the shipping ??!! I'll think about it. You drive a hard bargain Dan B..

Wow...that would be a deal!! I've got a project in the works and selling the Kimber would free up some cash.

I was in Townsville the other day...had a business lunch at the restaurant.
