Contender .45-70 14"bbl w/factory brake topped w/Matchdot.
Ammo is Hornady Leverevolution 325gr at 25 yards. (I know it's not that far but it's a start)
I bore sighted this in my kitchen by sighting through the barrel and then moving the dot to the top of the view through the barrel.
This is the group it shot after the bore sight. I haven't made any adjustments yet.
Next session I'll bring it to center then move back to 50yds

Jeff

PS: almost forgot to mention, this is 5 rounds.

That's a good start!

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Indeed!

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Looking good, Jeff. Gotta start somewhere, and 25 yards is where I'd choose to start.

I have a tender 14" in that caliber from early on, and it really shows results on whitetails with the 300 gr HP. A few deer in the freezer and I switched to 400 gr Speer Sp with more impressive results. I think the velocity was 1500-1550 fps. The recoil became fierce and the original rear micro sight JDJ mounted would come off after approx. 4 shots. I never tried the 325 gr Hornadys yet. It could be the perfect bullet though. Anyway, I think that would be the best caliber for your situation and I guarantee you will never feel lacking! GOOD LUCK HUNTING!!!

That is exactly how I bore sight bolt guns. Never saw the need for a laser. BTW that is some good shooting, enjoy!

Very fine shooting! I really like the 45/70, it should serve you well for years to come.
