This guy still has both antlers as of April 5th. I once saw one with both antlers on April 15th one year. Most of them have shed by now.

What's the latest in the year you've ever seen a buck still carrying one or both antlers?

The dropping of their antlers depends on their T levels during the year. Higher the T level in rut the sooner they loose their horns. Once they loose the horn the cuticle expands slightly in diameter in just a few days. The new horns begin growing back almost as soon as they fall off. The bond that holds the horn can be super strong or very weak depending on the T levels. No I am not a wildlife biologist but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night.

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

In Pennsylvania mid January while squirrel hunting a few years back I had two bucks go by. One had dropped one side, the other had both antlers.

I'm still seeing some with horns. Last week I saw one with one upright horn and the other just barely hanging on.

I've seen a few with antlers in June but only once or twice and they were young bucks.

Three cheers for H2OBug!

I've seen a nice 8 point one in Ohio a few years ago about April 7th-15th.

What Bug said! In Mississippi it's not uncommon to see them with antlers is May. I have seen one in June, but that was in Texas.

Just like with this buck:

It's hard to make out, but you can see the new antler beginning to grow.
