I took this boar using my Freedom Arms 500 Wyoming Express shooting a 350gr Sierra JHP handload. I was in a treestand and had first shot a good boar with my FA`s 475 using a CEB handload. The sounder had no idea where I was as it approached the back of my stand, so I stood up, drew my 500WE from its holster, and sighted in on the last boar as they walked in a single file. He took off at high speed for a short distance squealing the entire time until he dropped. A 22mag solid to the brain finished the noise. The exit wound is visible in all photos and the blood trail from the JHP Sierra could be followed with a blindfold in place. The 50 caliber JHP bullets from a revolver are more then enough for any medium game species on this planet and may be good for some of the larger animals as well. However, if you are new to this sport and the only hunting handgun you own is of 35 caliber I would say that you are well armed for the most popular animal in the US which is the whitetail. If you feel that this caliber is not enough then I suggest you view the video of the young lady shooting a fallow doe with her open sight 9mm semi-auto. Bullet placement is always number one...... So dust off your handgun and get yourself outdoors and shoot something no matter what size and remember to post those pictures here which is the only site around that truly promotes handgun hunting....

Hunting pics as above help sell handgun hunting for sure.Hunting with revolvers in gun rags most often take a backseat to pistols that just look to much like the rifle hunters rig. I try to push handgun hunting to being like bow hunting. Knowing game and getting close. The book Handgun hunting which I own has very little hunting with my type of gun.I believe the Colt Alaska's number one handgun round is mentioned once but have not read the whole book.
Like BP hunters we need to help those that show interest and be responsible in our sport.

I agree. The best way for us to promote our activity is to get out there and do it (and post plenty of pictures and videos showing us at it.)

That may be but you do it with aplomb and I'm glad I'm not a hog and living with in 1000 miles of NJ. You've killed a crap ton more hogs than I have...

Here's how I promote it...

There's nothing like showing a skeptical adult that a kid can do it.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

But CRal is "special" - and not the insert "politically incorrect" kinda special like his Daddy

Seriously - kid is a prodigy!

James - congratulations on another handgunned hog! I'll carry a sidearm into the turkey woods tomorrow, just in case I have the opportunity to catch up to you slowly over time. My only swine so far this year has been quietly terminated via thermal imaging...

Kim, your son is the future of the sport for sure. Now if you can just convince the rest of Americas youth to put the gameboys down & get outside. Congrats to Clay for being a fine ambassador for the sport.

The picture above is how I have passed along/promoted the sport of handgun hunting. My wife Jennifer also likes to hunt with a pistol. She is 5'2 & 106 pounds, if she can handle a Super Redhawk, anybody can. She typically shoots 240 gr. HP's out of her pistol.

Another nice hog! congratulations, James. Appears you're getting that 500 a work-out.

Rod, too.
