Ok. I'm looking at buying a die set for 500 Linebaugh. Trying to figure out why the Hornady 4 die set is $71. The RCBS 3 die set is $295. Why is that?

It says on Midway that the RCBS set is a special order item available upon request, but not kept in stock.

The RCBS 3 die set is $295. Yowza. That's nutz. Yet another reason to like the JRH. Those RCBS dies are $52.99
Rod, too.

If RCBS only produces them on special order, I think that alone would explain why they're more expensive. If they don't normally produce them, they'd likely charge higher prices. The Hornady dies are part of their Series IV dies, meaning they're produced relatively regularly, so they wouldn't cost more than other Series IV sets.
This is all conjecture, by the way.

Sounds good to me. I was concerned to buy a set and find out later they were inferior and end up having to buy the other set later. Thanks for the input.

My 460 dies are a Series IV set. So far, they've served me well with no problems.

Green is expensive. Always has been. Made me a HAPPY Lee customer many years ago.

Hornady works well just keep an eye on the keeper pin that it doesn't contact the cases. Can lead to splits. I've bought several rcbs set for $55 or so over the years.
