I have been intrigued by the idea of using the .460 Roland in a Glock platform. I know there are a few experienced Rowland users on this forum, so my question is how well does the round perform on big game eg elk, bear and African plains game. Does the round have enough penetration to make it a serious proposition for that size animal?

All I have used it on so far is deer. It duplicates .44 mag performance. Using the 265gr Beartooth sized .451 and loaded up to max I would use it on ekk sized game. There was a guy at Wilderness lodge a few years ago that used a .460 Rowland to take a bison and elk. I was told by the guide that took him that he was impressed. It completely penetrated the bison's lung/heart area and exited. I am sure he was using a cast bullet but never found out which one.refexl

I should add that when I was reasearching the .460 Rowland before I built one I found a article online where a gent was charged by a big brown bear and stopped the bear with a .460 Rowland using the 230gr full metal jacket load at 1430fps. It completely penetrated the bears skull which is a pretty hard thing to do. reflexl

Thank Reflex. While I have a love/hate relationship with my SRH .454, I've always been more a s/a man rather than a revolver type. I had a G34 for many years as a range gun and been really happy on all counts; accuracy, reliability and general handling. I think a G21 will now be in my future. Then the experimentation can begin.

If you were happy with the G34 accuracy, you will likely be amazed at the G21. I've never seen one that wasn't a tackdriver. Enough so that we mounted a 4x Leupold on one for testing at one point and if I posted the group sizes, I'd be called all kinds of names probably. You will be very pleased!
